At a time when many clubs were strictly segregated, Robert Hawkins didn’t just look for a seat at the table, he built his own country club in Stow, Massachusetts.

Mapledale Country Club was one of the first Black-owned and operated golf courses in the United States. It became a sanctuary for excellence, hosting the first-ever tournament of the United Golfers Association (UGA) in 1926.
