"There are three big issues looming that will determine how this goes: The Title IX strategy for the implementation of revenue distribution, enforcement issues surrounding residual NIL and how roster caps work." - ESPN article on NCAA pay for play ruling.
The NCAA needs to figure out:
1. How will they distribute money relative to Title IX? Football makes up 85% of the revenue for most athletic programs. Does that mean that football will get 85% of the salary space for the teams, or will they have to divide it evenly between men’s and women’s sports?
2. What is allowed and not allowed regarding NIL? (that was already on the agenda)
3. If a power 5 team has a salary cap, how are they supposed to divide it and promise it to players? How will scholarships work relative to the salary cap? How many scholarships? Who will get them, what will they be used for?
The NCAA has a year and change to answer these questions. As always, they are being reactive instead of proactive about it.
