🏁 Race Recap – 201 Speedway 🏁
We made our first trip of the season to 201 Speedway and unloaded against a stout 18-car field packed with quality race cars.
Qualifying didn’t go exactly as planned. We missed the gear, but even with that setback, the Mullins Race Engines-powered Rocket Chassis by Ruhlman was still good enough to put us 7th quick. We knew there was more speed in the car than the stopwatch showed.
For the heat race, we rolled off 3rd in Heat 1. Dad went to work making a few setup adjustments along with the gear change, and the car immediately came to life. The top three cars checked out from the field, and we brought it home in 3rd.
Then came feature time.
Starting 7th, Dad already had a game plan in mind. The crew went to work, making the changes he wanted, and when we rolled onto the track, it was obvious we had something special.
The #11 was ON DIG. 🔥💨
From the drop of the green flag, we started moving forward. The car was fast, the balance was right, and we knew we were better than the cars in front of us. We followed along for a few laps, setting up our moves and waiting for the right opportunity.
Then disaster struck.
Under a quick caution that several drivers appeared to miss, traffic stacked up in front of us. Chase did everything he could to avoid major damage, but ended up clipping the right rear tire of a slowed car with our left front. The contact was enough to damage the nose and front bodywork and send us to the infield for repairs. 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻
Most teams would’ve loaded it up.
Not this one.
The track crew helped remove the damaged pieces, we tagged the tail, and sent the #11 back into battle. Even with a tore-up race car, Chase drove it back through the field and salvaged a 8th-place finish — right back where we started.
The finishing position doesn’t tell the story of how good this race car was.
We truly feel like we had a top-3 car, if not better. Dad hit on the setup, the crew made all the right calls, and the Mullins Race Engines power plant was an absolute animal all night long.
Sometimes racing gives you the trophy. Sometimes it gives you a lesson.
We’ll take the speed, the confidence, and the knowledge that we brought one of the fastest cars in the pit area. We’ll get her fixed up and be ready to do it all again next weekend.
And if history tells us anything, Dad will have this thing ON DIG once again. 👊🏁🔥
