Recently I posted on my personal page a picture of an acquired Landis # 12 Leather Stitching machine.
These machines were primarily used to resole both boots and shoes - back in a time when a pair of quality shoes would last as long as the soles, at which point they would be resoled and put back into service.
It’s just the way things were not so very long ago. I acquired the machine simply due to my desire to save quality from the scrap piles of our current modern wasted way of life.
Here is an example of what I’m talking about - I have no idea what this small grinder cost in the mid 50’s but I’ve been using it since around 1965 when I worked in my Grandfather’s tool shop. I acquired it from his estate in 1983 and have used it ever since.
Amazing tool that has been in service for roughly 60 years. Bearings have never been touched - my go to bench grinder.
Give a listen -
