The Ashkum Athletic Association slow pitch tournament was a resounding success. What we were able to accomplish would not have been possible without some help from a few individuals. First off, thank you to Sydney Hanson for being the official bookkeeper for the tournament. Second, thank you to Lisa Hanson for helping get things set up and helping keep things running smoothly. Thirdly, thank you to Chris Sifrit for helping umpire on Friday night. Also, a huge thank you to the teams that entered. The winning team was No Expectations coached by Dale DeWitt out of Kankakee and the second place team was Mugshots coached by Lisa Hanson out of Ashkum. Now on to the amazing part. Both teams donated back their winnings which allowed us to be able to raise $1200 for our Little League. Class act by both teams, and we truly appreciate it.

The next bit of exciting news is we are bringing back the slow pitch tourney at the Ashkum Homecoming this year. Please help get the word out. All Proceeds go to the Athletic Association.

Wanted to take a moment to share a few exciting upgrades going on at the field. The first one dates back to last year. Towards the end of the 2024 season the lights at the field started to fade. The board decided to upgrade them to LED lights. The project started off with a $4000 dollar grant from Eastern Illini Electric and COBANK. Wanted to send a special thanks to Mike Wilson of EIEC and EIEC board member and Ashkum resident Tyler Finegan for helping make this happen. The lights were purchased through Wesco Anixter out of Bradley IL. Special thanks to former AAA board member and Ashkum resident Jason Shoven for helping make this a very quick and painless process. With his recommendation B & D Electric out of Watseka was hired to swap out all of the old lights with the new LEDS. Also, wanted to take a minute to thank Jason Prairie with Prairie Brothers Construction out of Clifton and Graham Able with A-Built Ag Builders out of Ashkum for supplying the lifts to help get the electricians off the ground to get the new lights installed. After 2 short days, Josh and his crew had all the lights installed and what a difference it has made. We are a month and a half away from the start of the raffle. Still have tickets available. We will be selling them tomorrow at the Ashkum homecoming from 9-6 If you plan on being there swing by and grab a ticket. Our table is on the north side of the sidewalk west of the main pavilion.
