Long post. Today, Ron and I helped our tenant make her dreams come true, while we are able to move closer to retirement! Big Day for all involved!
Please read about our tenant! Please congratulate Cheryl Whitworth of Asheville Dance Theater !
Today was a BIG DAY for our local Asheville community! Today was a BIG DAY for women in business!
today - Today was a big day...
The story: Cheryl bought the commercial property where her business sits today! Solidifying the future of her business!
I would like to share a story for young ladies to be inspired!
I will share a bit about Cheryl. A dancer turned business owner, turned commercial property owner - even with obstacles along the way - she prevailed!
(I will tell it, since I know she will be shy).
For the last 21+ years, I have owned River Ridge Business Center (and Ladies Workout Asheville) while Cheryl Whitworth has owned Asheville Dance Theater.
Cheryl has rented the space from me, my tenant.
Through the years, while I was working with the women of Asheville at LWA, Cheryl was molding the young girls of Asheville!
Cheryl, turns out, was a young dancer at ADT (started at age 9, then returned at age 12, then NEVER LEFT)
She grew up at Asheville Dance Theater, then became the owner of the studio she called "home"!
I have watched Cheryl dedicate her life to training young girls, while encouraging them to keep growing up stronger and more confident at Asheville Dance - from tutus on up to teens! The little ones learn the basics and become dancers. Her teen girls, not only get the challenge of competing in dance, but they learn from her on how to become nice young women in the community. Cheryl also works with these teen ladies in a program called The Distinguished Young Women's Program. In addition to running her business, and working with the Distinguished Young Women's Program, she also worked with the UNCA college dance girls for years! Cheryl is busy - but stays humble, and kind, and giving. She is a hard worker dedicated to the young girls and women of Asheville. I have watched her take little ones in tutus, make them dancers, and as they blossom - she gives them confidence, then they become beautiful women in the community, and then they come back to thank her! It really is a special community.
Cheryl has been faced with challenges both personally and professionally along the way. Personally, Cheryl is a survivor of breast cancer and has also been faced with deep personal loss along the way. Yet, she still prevailed. In business, she has been faced with the challenges of COVID, and the closing of her business for months. During this time, Cheryl quickly switched gears and encouraged the young girls to stay strong online, not missing a beat - keeping them motivated, in a time where these kids lost school and their daily camaraderie of peers. Cheryl kept these kids fulfilled and happy. I watched in awe as she prevailed again. Building her community stronger.
Today, on December 22nd, I am able to smile as she buys her 3,600 sq ft rental unit from me - to solidify her future! All her hard work, has paid off! Cheryl is a single woman who managed to make it through personal loss, COVID closing, and breast cancer - all while owning a business. NOW, today, she is able to buy the commercial property where the business sits - by herself! Let's take a moment to say congrats to Cheryl!
Cheryl is a positive role model for young girls! Her story is one to be shared with Asheville!
The main story: Dream big GIRLS, Dream BIG! Keep working hard to get your dreams!
I am thankful to have worked by her side, AND have her as a long term tenant. As I retire, I am excited to watch her be able to pay RENT TO HERSELF, and have something to sell or rent in HER retirement!
What a good Local Christmas story about a woman who starts as a dancer, grows up to buy that business, AND then BUY THE COMMERCIAL PROPERTY where it sits!! As one Asheville woman in business retires here (me), Cheryl will carry on to be the next generation!
Please share. And community members, please congratulate her! She did it!
