Growing up without a father, I always wondered about the man who was half of who I am. My mom kept his identity a secret until I was an adult, and when she finally told me, it took all the courage I had to decide to meet him. I wasn't expecting a warm welcome, but I still held onto a sliver of hope that he'd be excited to know about me.When my father opened the door, I never imagined the conversation that would follow would be so crushing.Father: "Yes?" Me: "Alexander? I'm Clara, your daughter." Father: "My daughter??" Me: "My mom told me you're my dad. She's gone now, and I… wanted to meet you." Father: "Let's not romanticize the past.
