Parents, your kid doesn’t need another team, another trainer or another shiny opportunity every time they get bored. Sometimes they need to learn how to do boring 💩 really well.
I had to have this conversation with my own kid the other day.
You say you want to be elite? Then you better learn to love being bored.
Elite isn’t sexy.
It’s the same 💩 . Over and over and over again.
Same drills. Same lifts. Same throws. Same corrections. Same days where you wonder if you’re even getting better.
When I came back to train for the 2020 Olympics, people saw the Olympics. The jersey. The lights. The big stage.
They didn’t see how dam boring it was to get there.
And as parents, we have to be careful that we aren’t constantly trying to remove that boredom for our kids.
They don’t always need something NEW.
Sometimes they need to stay in it.
Stop trying to make every workout exciting. Stop rescuing them when the grind gets monotonous. Stop confusing boredom with burnout.
There’s value in showing up when nothing feels exciting.
That’s what I told my kid.
You don’t get to say you want something different while being unwilling to do the same boring 💩 every damn day.
Some days you’ll feel incredible. Some days you’ll feel stagnant. Some days you’ll wonder what the hell the point is.
DO IT ANYWAY.
Nobody promised you a scholarship. A starting spot. A medal. A trophy.
But if you want to chase elite, this is part of the price.
Fall in love with the boring.Fall in love with the hard. Fall in love with doing the 💩 nobody claps for.
Parents, quit trying to make the road easier. Teach them how to stay on it when it gets boring.
