107 years ago on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month fighting in World War I came to a close as the Armistice took effect. For years November 11 was celebrated as Armistice Day, but in 1954 November 11th was re-designated as Veterans Day to honor American Veterans of all wars.

Thank you to all our Veterans, past and present.

This photograph was taken at Camp Devens on November 11, 1918 in front of the Sweetheart Memorial on Jackson Road. In celebration-and to make lots of noise-the revelers carried "all kinds [of implements] from broom handles to dishpans, and lots of them, too."

The Ashburnham Historical Society is looking for a Board Clerk—a key role in keeping our dedicated (and fun!) team running smoothly. If you love history, enjoy being organized, and want to make a meaningful impact in the community, this could be the perfect fit for you!

As Clerk, you’ll help with:

• Keeping brief notes at board meetings
• Organizing important documents (nothing too complicated!)
• Assisting with meeting agendas and communications

It's time! Don't Miss Tonight's Open House with Special Guests & Treats!
A quick reminder about our Annual Open House happening tonight!
We are thrilled to have Allan Small as our guest speaker who will be discussing the history of the grants and the renowned Cambridge Historic District in Ashburnham. He was instrumental in researching our town's significance to American history. His authored work earned Ashburnham an honorary designation in the National Registry archives as a historic landmark. The Ashburnham Historical Society is grateful and honored to have him as our guest!
Plus warm up with some delicious desserts, hot cocoa, and warm cider.
