Joel Cassidy with just another pull.
My bags are packed, ties tied, nametag recovered from the lost and found box at the dry cleaners and shirts folded. I leave for Raw Nats on Wednesday morning. Good luck to all mid-Atlantic lifters flying out. May all of you reach new heights.
Uriah Johnson with a successful third attempt squat at the Raid (VA-2024-05).
I have never been shy about wanting to run the best meets in the country. I realized early on that it didn’t matter how much money I threw at a competition, without quality officiating, the quality of the meet would still suffer. Late last year I challenged Virginia referees to up their game. After tons of mentoring and conversation, our officiating has been getting significantly better ever since. Yesterday’s Vengeance meet was outstanding. I couldn’t be prouder of the officiating that occurred. The platform calls were strict but not overly strict. Nothing significant made it past them. Soft knees were never allowed. Soft elbows were treated the same. Seven of 49 lifters went 9 for 9 so over officiating was definitely not seen. Virginia has reached a new level of professionalism and perfection. Our events are only going to get better.
Emily Gamber's third attempt pull at the Mega Novice Open (VA-2024-06).
You won't know what it feels like to lift in a Virginia competition until you commit to one. The USA Powerlifting community in Virginia is very inclusive and supportive of new competitors. Strength of body can only be achieved after strength of mind. Choose a hobby that extends your life.
Christine Kantaparn at the Mega Novice Open (VA-2026-06). Powerlifting isn't just about lifting heavy weights. It is more about having the courage to step onto the platform.
I"m looking for spotters for the Vengeance meet being held at C4 Explosive Sports Training in Manassas being held on May18th. Spotters earn a salary, keep the competitors safe, and get a killer workout. Contact me at [email protected] if you are interested.

This is what lifter’s choice third attempt video walkouts are all about. Sarah Lemon with the most cinematic lift of the meet.
2:30am and the Shamrock Showdown is starting to take shape. Virginia will again demonstrate what passion and dedication to the mission can achieve. (As well as insomnia.). The lifters are going to have a fantastic opportunity to show the world the fruits of their training. Lifting starts at 9am on Saturday.
Jaden Bennet with her third attempt deadlift at the Winter Thaw (VA-2024-08). Third attempt video walkouts are now the standard at all Virginia competitions. Get your videos ready. The louder the better. The more original the better.
I will be running a Meet Director seminar on Saturday, March 14th at the Chaos Lab at 6pm after lifting stops. I’ve spent the last 6 years building Virginia into a powerlifting powerhouse and would now like to hand over the reins at certain gyms to others with the dedication, passion and professionalism to uphold the standard and run great competitions. The idea is that I’m looking for candidates to run all of the USA Powerlifting meets at specific gyms. I’m not turning over the reins of State Chair. I’m still going to be running my own meets. This is simply an attempt to expand coverage. You could run as many competitions as you want so long as they met the standard that has been established. I’m not talking video walls. I’m talking about starting on time, communicating with lifters and demonstrating the level of professionalism required. The most important feature of any competition are the officials and I’m happy to say that Virginia has a great crop of referees to choose from. I will go over all of the lessons learned, communication strategies, operational strategies and financials that I’ve learned over the years. Contact me at [email protected] to sign up.
