o Brian Shea comes to the program with a wealth of experience in endurance sports as an athlete, coach and consultant. He is the Founder & Head Coach at JSM (Jersey Shore Masters) & for over 25 years, has competed in all levels of endurance sports from

5K to Ultra-marathon Swims/Runs to Ironman. o He has raced/won triathlons in the United States & abroad with multiple Ironman finishes including Ironman Hawaii with Personal Bests of:

5k - 15:54
Marathon - 2:49
Ironman - 9:31

Most recently, Coach Brian has (6) top-10 finishes in the 9-mile Swim for Alligator Light in Islamorada, FL - including a (2) top-5 finishes. Additionally, he has multiple top-3 finishes (40-49) at the United States Lifesaving Association National Championships, including being a part of Monmouth County's winning 2023 team. o On the coaching side, Brian is a certified coach having formulated training and sports nutrition programs for athletes ranging from beginner to professional. Mother Nature gave us a little bump in ocean temps which should stay through tonight's swim. We'll have a light wind out of the SSE, giving us a little chop.

& the age-old question: "But Brian, I thought the water was in the low 60s, how did it drop again so quickly especially w/ these warm air temps?!?" 🤔

The direction of the wind typically has a MUCH more significant impact on the ocean temps, than the air temps. Very often we'll have air temps in the upper 80s (like we have today/tomorrow), but the water will still remain cold or even get coldER, like it did over the last 24-hours.

So why is that?

It's a phenomena called upwelling & in a nutshell:

Winds coming from the SOUTH = COLD
Winds coming from the NORTH = WARM

We had some (uhhhh 🤔) 'sporty' conditions for our kick-off to the 2026 Long Branch Ocean Swims w/ a HOWLING 20mph+ NNW wind & air/ocean temps in the upper 50s.

We'll keep our fingers crossed for more summer-like days ahead & conditions permitting, will be back in the water next week on...

We'll be back in the ocean on SATURDAY morning w/ both air & water temps, in the upper 50s. It does look like we'll have a decent amount of wind, but the current forecast has it blowing offshore, which should keep the chop to a minimum.
