✨ Graduating Senior - Makenna Schmitt✨

We are so proud of this amazing artist! Help us congratulate our beautiful graduating senior as we head into our Recital! We love you!

▪️What are your future plans?
I’m attending Lindenwood University this fall to study Dance (emphasis in Jazz) and minor in Dance Studio Management. From there I am wanting to join a dance company and one day in the future open my own dance studio (just like Ms. Ashley!).

▪️What is your favorite dance memory?
Although there are so many memories that I hold dear from being at DPU, I would have to say my favorite memory is when “Icons”won Platinum Power at nationals in Myrtle Beach. It was my first ever nationals and I felt so honored to get to be a part of such an incredible dance.

▪️What is your favorite dance you have ever performed?
Definitely my solo “Betrayed.” I just feel like I can be silly and show my range of emotions when acting on stage. I’m such a big fan of musicals and this was such a great senior solo.

▪️What is your advice to younger dancers?
To my littles, I want you to know that there is a light within each and every one of you that shines so bright when you dance. Never let anyone dull that light. You all are so extremely talented, and I can’t wait to see you all blossom into the incredible older dancers that I know you’ll become. Continue to support and love each other because community is so important. I love you all bunches.

▪️What will you miss most about DPU?
I will definitely miss all of the girls and teachers at the studio. They have become a second family to me and it’s going to be rough not being there every week.

Good luck as you take the DPU stage one last time this week. We are so grateful to have been a part of your journey. Remember, you always have a home here.

Be bold. Be beautiful. Be you. 💚

▪️What are your future plans?
My future plans are to attend SLU and study health sciences pre physician assistant.

▪️What is your favorite dance memory?
My favorite dance memory was at nationals last year when we all got to jump into the pool after we just competed for the last time ever all together.

▪️What is your favorite dance you have ever performed?
My favorite dance I have ever performed was “End Of Love” - it was one of my duets with Gabbi Kennedy. This was my favorite dance because it was our first year doing a lyrical duet together. I loved being able to just let go on stage and dance with someone that I looked up to so much and love so much!

▪️What is your advice to younger dancers?
My advice to younger dancers would be not only to enjoy every moment but to stop putting so much pressure on yourself because once you get rid of that you find a whole different version of yourself. It’s important to remember that dance is something we do because we love it not because of where we place or what others think of us; sometimes we all get lost in that so much that we forget the real reason we are all doing it. So just enjoy it because one day you’ll only be able to look back at it as a memory.

▪️What will you miss most about DPU?
The thing I will miss most about DPU is all of the staff and all of the girls on the team we have all gotten so close over the years I’ve watched these girls grow up and I’m so upset I won’t be able to be dancing with them for theirs.

Good luck as you take the DPU stage one last time this week. We are so grateful to have been a part of your journey. Remember, you always have a home here.

Be bold. Be beautiful. Be you. 💚

▪️What are your future plans?
I plan to attend The University of Missouri to study Nuclear Medicine on the Pre-Med track. I hope to become a pediatric oncologist.

▪️What is your favorite dance memory?
My favorite dance memory nationals at platinum last year.

▪️What is your favorite dance you have ever performed?
My favorite dance I´ve ever performed is “Icon” because it was one of our first small groups and always so fun to perform.

▪️What is your advice to younger dancers?
Never doubt yourself. Even if you don´t think you can accomplish something, just try and give it your all because you will shock yourself.

▪️What will you miss most about DPU?
I will miss all the late nights spent with my best friends in the studio. And all the fun and laughter and best friends that this studio has brought me.

Good luck as you take the DPU stage one last time this week. We are so grateful to have been a part of your journey. Remember, you always have a home here.

Be bold. Be beautiful. Be you. 💚

▪️What are your future plans?
I will be studying Exercise Science on the pre-physical therapy track at Tulane University!

▪️What is your favorite dance memory?
Platinum Nationals in Orlando last year was so much fun. I made so many irreplaceable memories between going to the pool, going to Disney, making it into the Gala, and countless laughs with my teammates.

▪️What is your favorite dance you have ever performed?
“Dreaming” because it was really fun to be able to use the flower petals as a prop and lyrical is my favorite style!

▪️What is your advice to younger dancers?
Don’t take your time at dance for granted because it will truly fly by. Soak in all of your late night practices and early competition mornings because every bit of it is what makes dance so special.

▪️What will you miss most about DPU?
I will miss all of the people that make DPU so special. I have met some of my closest friends here and all of the staff is so welcoming and kind. Everyone at DPU has truly become my family and I will hold onto my memories with them as tight as I can!

Good luck as you take the DPU stage one last time this week. We are so grateful to have been a part of your journey. Remember, you always have a home here.

▪️What are your future plans?
This fall, I will be attending Saint Louis University where she plans to study Health Sciences on the Pre-PA track. While I am excited for this next chapter, it’s hard to imagine closing the chapter on something that has been such a huge part of my life for so long.

▪️What is your favorite dance memory?
One of my favorite dance memories has been spending time with the Tiny Tots at the studio. Whether it was helping backstage, watching them get excited before going on stage, or hearing them talk about dance with so much happiness, they constantly reminded me why dance is so special. Seeing how much they looked up to the older dancers made me realize how important kindness, encouragement, and simply being there for someone can be. Some of my favorite moments were the little things: helping fix costumes, giving hugs before performances, and watching their faces light up after they danced on stage. Being around the Tiny Tots brought so much joy to my last two years at DPU and made the studio feel even more like home.

▪️What is your favorite dance you have ever performed?
One of my favorite dances I have ever performed was a lyrical routine called “Halo” choreographed by Leah Vogt.

▪️What is your advice to younger dancers?
My message to younger dancers is to not compare yourself to anyone and trust your own journey. Some days in dance will challenge you mentally and physically, but those are the moments that help you grow the most. Don’t be afraid to take up space, work hard even when nobody notices, and enjoy every little moment because one day the rehearsals, competitions, and recital weekends you thought would last forever suddenly become memories.

▪️What will you miss most about DPU?
I will miss being able to see my friends almost every night.

Good luck as you take the DPU stage one last time this week. We are so grateful to have been a part of your journey. Remember, you always have a home here.

Be bold. Be beautiful. Be you. 💚

▪️What are your future plans?
My future plans are to go to Jefferson Community College for 2 years to get my Associates degree since I have an A+ scholarship. Then I want to go to SEMO to get my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education

▪️What is your favorite dance memory?
My favorite dance memory was in my second year at DPU dance, I got to do a stall on stage and I was really happy that I was able to do it and not fall over on stage.

▪️What is your favorite dance you have ever performed?
My favorite dance that I preformed was the dance I did last year, I was a little nervous since it was my first time dancing in a group without my sister also being in the dance, but they dance was fun and challenging in the best ways and I was really proud of myself.

▪️What is your advice to younger dancers?
My advice for younger dancers is that the moves that you perform on stage don’t have to be perfect, the only thing that matters is that you are having fun while you do it and that you were doing the best you can.

▪️What will you miss most about DPU?
What I will miss most about DPU is the friends I made while in dance, and how fun it is to be weird and funky while I dance. I think I will forever miss the fun and chill environment that DPU has.

Good luck as you take the DPU stage one last time this weekend. We are so grateful to have been a part of your journey. Remember, you always have a home here.

Be bold. Be beautiful. Be you. 💚

▪️What are your future plans?
I plan to attend wichita State University for aerospace engineering

▪️What is your favorite dance memory?
My favorite dance memory is all of the fun times we had in class, laughing and joking around

▪️What is your favorite dance you have ever performed? Teen Jazz: “One Time”

▪️What is your advice to younger dancers?
My advice is to enjoy it, dont take it for granted because the next thing you know is the last class of your senior years and you will never be able to dance with these same people again. Enjoy the little things just as much as the big moments because those memories are just as special.

▪️What will you miss most about DPU?
I will miss the people the most, my friends i have the honor of growing up with, and the teachers who have helped shape me in the women i want to become. My life would not be the same without these people.

Good luck as you take the DPU stage one last time this weekend. We are so grateful to have been a part of your journey. Remember, you always have a home here.

Be bold. Be beautiful. Be you. 💚
