On May 10th, we had the distinct honor of once again hosting Venerable Jian-Gong Shih (Shifu) from the Chung Tai International Retreat Center 中台國際禪修中心 (Texas Pagoda Chan Monastery). Shifu compassionately expounded the Dharma and provided invaluable guidance on meditation in stillness and while in motion.

In a joint celebration of Mother's Day, the Abbot graciously taught us the importance of mindful eating, emphasizing how cultivating awareness during our meals can deepen our spiritual practice and daily wellness. To help us integrate these teachings into our daily lives, our host, Chuan Ying, prepared and distributed a practical mindful-eating tracker worksheet.

We are incredibly grateful to Shifu and everyone who joined us for this meaningful day of reflection, community, and gratitude.

On March 9th, Venerable Jiangong, Abbot of Chung Tai International Retreat Center 中台國際禪修中心, received a warm welcome from Venerable Bhikkhu Paññākāra at Hoang Dao Vipassana Center (The Ancient Sacred Buddhist Scripture Stupas Bảo Tháp Tàng Kinh Thánh Điển). Accompanying the Abbot were several disciples of the Three Jewels, who were also graciously received and shown warm hospitality.

Out of compassion, Ven. Bhikkhu Paññākāra graciously took time from his busy schedule to give us a tour of the Buddha Hall, grand kitchen, and meditation garden. We found the future site of the Dhammacetiya project to be especially peaceful and inspiring.

We wish Hoang Dao Vipassana Center great success with their Dhammacetiya groundbreaking ceremony on Vesak Day!

Here are some photos taken during our visit to the Vipassana Center:

🙂 Sweet Dew of the Dharma – Purification and Elevation: The Essence of Chan (Zen)

Chan means to purify and elevate the mind, from the coarse to the refined, from the relative to the absolute.

On March 8th, we had the honor of welcoming Venerable JianGong Shifu from Chung Tai International Retreat Center 中台國際禪修中心 to continue teaching the Five Precepts and emphasizing the importance of upholding them in daily life. He offered a deeper exploration of their practical application, illustrating how these principles can guide our actions, thoughts, and relationships. Through clear explanations and meaningful examples, he highlighted the positive outcomes that arise from living in alignment with the precepts, including greater clarity, compassion, and inner stability.

The teachings followed a session of sitting meditation, allowing participants to cultivate stillness and awareness. This transitioned into mindful walking meditation, where we practiced maintaining presence and attentiveness with each step.

Later, we gathered with participants at River Legacy Park, where Shifu led a session of Qigong. Through gentle, flowing movements, we were guided to connect breath, body, and mind in harmony. The day concluded with a mini peace walk, offering an opportunity to carry mindfulness into motion and share a sense of calm, unity, and intention with the surrounding community. Here are a few captured moments:

On February 6th and 7th, Venerable JianGong of Chung Tai International Retreat Center (Texas Pagoda Chan Monastery) visited to share the teachings of the Buddha and guide us through various sitting meditation techniques. He also led walking meditation and Qigong movements, emphasizing the importance of mindfulness in motion.

Out of compassion for the DFW community, he tirelessly answered questions during our vegan dinner gathering, recounting stories from ancient times with clarity and precision.

In his continued commitment to spreading the benefits of Zen meditation, Venerable JianGong will return on March 8th to lead a guided meditation session, followed by a mini peace walk at River Legacy Park

🙂 Sweet Dew of the Dharma – From Intention to Realization: The Path of Practice

A bodhisattva’s cultivation begins with the right cause, which is a selfless practice that is benefiting others as it is benefiting oneself. Having developed a lasting, diligent and compassionate resolve, a bodhisattva will surely bring about the right effect and realize the Way.
