Hispanic Heritage Month Spotlight
Each week during Hispanic Heritage Month, PAGA of Arlington will recognize people who have made an impact in golf, sports, leadership, and our Hispanic community.
To start it off, we want to recognize a true golf legend, Raymond “Copper” Aguillon Sr. from San Antonio.
This photo is from the Texas Open, where Mr. Aguillon showed he could play with the best of them. He was a two-time Low Amateur winner at the Texas Open, including one at historic Brackenridge Park Golf Course in 1959.
He was also a lifetime member of the Pan American Golf Association for over 62 years and was inducted into the PAGA Hall of Fame in 1993. He was a five-time annual state tournament champion, part of eight PAGA Four-Man Team championships, and held several course records around San Antonio.
One of the wildest accomplishments was at Brackenridge Park Golf Course, where he shot a 28 on the back nine in 1987. Anyone who plays golf knows that is unreal.
But his legacy was more than just golf scores. Mr. Aguillon represented pride, family, hard work, and love for the game. He also shared what he knew with junior golfers, helping keep the game going for the next generation.
As we begin Hispanic Heritage Month, PAGA of Arlington is proud to honor Raymond “Copper” Aguillon Sr. for the legacy he left behind in PAGA, San Antonio golf, and the Hispanic golf community.
A true legend.
