Year 4 of the AISD Practicum Program!

Today we had the opportunity to interview an impressive group of Arlington ISD students interested in spending their practicum with Cover All Bases this year.

We talked about everything from technology and data to marketing, social media, business operations, and sports management and they definitely aren’t going to make our decisions easy. We have some tough choices ahead as we narrow down this group!

This will be our 4th year participating in the AISD Practicum Program, and it continues to be something we really value. Our goal is to give students more than hours for a class, we want them working on real projects, solving real problems, and getting experience they can take with them beyond CAB.

Excited to get this year’s group selected and get to work.

The future is bright in Arlington!

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: C**T GRAMMAR | 10U

Some of the best progress in baseball doesn’t show up in a box score.

C**t has been working with us through private lessons, and watching his growth lately has been awesome.

One number tells part of the story: his throwing velocity has jumped from 42 MPH to 49 MPH.

But honestly, our favorite part has been everything happening around that number.

C**t is naturally pretty quiet. As he’s started seeing the results of his work, you can literally hear the excitement in his voice. He’s talking more. Asking questions. Getting excited when he learns something new and even more excited when he realizes, “Hey, I can do this.”

That confidence matters.

42 → 49 MPH. More confidence. More excitement. More belief.

You don’t always control when the opportunity comes.

You can control whether you’re ready for it.

Proud of you, C**t. Keep going.

Another trip around the sun.

Birthdays have a way of making you reflect, and the older I get, the more I realize that success isn’t measured by wins, trophies, or even the business we’ve built.

It’s measured by people.

The coaches who believed in you before you believed in yourself. The teammates who pushed you. The parents who sacrificed countless hours. The mentors who took the time to invest in your future.

I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who’s trusted me with their kids over the years. Coaching has given me far more than baseball ever has, and it’s a responsibility I’ll never take for granted.

Otherwise, tag or name a coach, teacher, parent, or mentor who changed your life, and tell them/us why.

I have a feeling there are some incredible people out there who deserve to hear that today.

Aiden Thaxton’s fielding score comes in at 356. Level 300 is where most 11-12 players land on the Universal Rating Scale and level 400 is where we see most 13-14 year old players. Aiden will be 11U this fall, so knowing that he’s above average athletically we can spend more time focusing on conversations around ex*****on and baseball IQ.

A jersey can tell a story. This one tells Chris Gay's.
When we set out to design our new CAB jerseys, we wanted them to honor more than just the history of Arlington Heat, we wanted them to honor the man who helped build it.
Every detail has meaning.
The classic Arlington Heat logo brings back the identity Chris helped create.
#11 on the sleeve honors the number Chris wore and the legacy he left behind.
And on the opposite sleeve is perhaps the most meaningful patch of all...
When Hunter Pence reached the major leagues, he was asked to recognize the "Most Influential Coach" in his baseball journey. He chose Chris Gay. That patch became a symbol of the impact Chris had, not just on Hunter, but on countless players who came through his program.
We hope these jerseys do more than look great.
We hope they're a reminder to every coach who wears one that our job isn't simply to teach baseball.
It's to believe in kids. To encourage them when they're struggling. To celebrate them when they succeed. To care about them long after the final out.
Because you never truly know the impact you'll have on a young athlete's life.
Chris did.
Now it's our responsibility to carry that legacy forward.

Universal Rating System Powered by Pelotero

Pelotero just publicly launched their Universal Rating System (URS) - and our players are among the first in the country to have verified ratings.

URS gives every player a verifiable score across hitting, fielding, throwing, and running grounded in verifiable data based on time. The rating is a reflection of how fast any given player can play the game.
As a Pelotero partner program, Cover All Bases has full access to URS. This season, we are using these ratings to drive tryouts, inform development priorities, and align players, parents, and coaches around a shared picture of where every athlete stands.
More details will be coming from your coaches on how we'll be using this. Ultimately this is going to help us better personalize for every player and become our best tool for tracking progress.
This gives every player the best chance of reaching their potential!
