Senior Spotlight: For Varsity Boys Captain Thomas Totten, the annual spring break training trips and winning the 2023, 2025, and 2026 VASRA State Championships rank among his favorite rowing memories.
Thomas began rowing in 8th grade, and his remarkable achievements include: 2nd place M-N-8+ (VSRC ’22), 1st place M-Fr-8+ ( VSRC ’23), 6th place M-Fr-8+ (Stotesbury ‘23), 5th place M-Fr-8+ (SRAA ‘23), 2nd place u17 8+ (OAR, Head of the H***h ‘23), 4th place M-1V-8+ (VSRC ‘24), 11th place youth 1V 8+ (SRAA ‘24), 1st place u17 4+ (OAR, Head of the Potomac ‘24), 1st place u17 4+ (OAR, Occoquan Chase ‘24), 4th place u17 4+ (OAR, Head of the Charles ‘24), 1st place u17 4+ (OAR, Head of the H***h ‘24), 1st place M-1V-8+ (VSRC ‘25), 1st place M-1V-8+ (Ryz Obuchowicz ‘26), 3rd place M-1V-8+ (St. Andrew’s ’26), 1st place M-1V-8+ (VSRC ‘26), and 4th place M-1V-8+ (Stotesbury ‘26). Thomas was also recognized as a member of the Washington Post 2025 Spring All-Met: Boys Rowing First Team.
Thomas will continue his rowing career at the United States Naval Academy after being recruited to their Men’s Heavyweight team. At the Academy, he will pursue a career in serving as an officer in the United States Navy or Marine Corps.
