THE PROBLEM WITH ALL-OR-NOTHING THINKING

We've seen a lot of people get stuck because they think everything has to be perfect. ➡️They miss one workout and decide the week is ruined.
➡️They miss one day reading their Bible and decide they'll start over next month.
➡️They have one bad meal and convince themselves they've failed.

Life doesn't work that way.

You don't have to be perfect to make progress. You just have to keep moving forward. Most success comes from doing the right things consistently, not perfectly.

Anyone can quote a Bible verse.

That doesn't mean their interpretation is correct.

Even Satan quoted Scripture when he tempted Jesus.

Don't accept something as true just because a verse is attached to it. Open your Bible, check the context, and study it for yourself.

THE BIGGEST SELF-DEFENSE MYTH PEOPLE BELIEVE

One of the biggest self-defense myths people believe is that they'll somehow rise to the occasion when they need to.

That's usually not what happens.

Under pressure, you don't suddenly become better than you've trained to be.
You fall back on your training.

That's why we spend so much time on fundamentals.
That's why we repeat things.
That's why we focus on simple movements instead of complicated ones.

Simple and practiced beats fancy and forgotten every time.

The goal isn't to know the most techniques.
The goal is to have skills you can actually use.

What do you think matters most in self-defense: knowledge or practice?

LUKE 6:31 - "And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them."

Simple.
Not easy.

Most people are easy to respect when they're kind, helpful, and agreeable. The challenge comes when they're not.

That's where this verse gets real.

Respect isn't just about manners. It's recognizing that every person has value because they were created by God.

Even the difficult ones.
Especially the difficult ones.

How can you live this verse out this week?

This may surprise you, but...

WE DON'T TEACH CONFIDENCE.

People talk about teaching confidence.

But we don't think confidence can actually be taught. It has to be earned.

Every time you keep a promise to yourself, confidence grows.
Every workout you complete.
Every class you attend.
Every difficult conversation you have.
Every time you do the right thing when it would be easier not to.

Little by little, confidence grows because you're proving to yourself that you're capable of more than you thought.

What's one promise you've kept to yourself recently?

WHY WE PRACTICE THE SAME THINGS OVER AND OVER

If you've ever watched one of our classes, you've probably noticed something.

We repeat things. A lot.

That's intentional.

When pressure goes up, performance usually goes down. The skills that stay with us are the ones we've practiced enough that they become natural.

That's true in martial arts.
It's true in sports.
It's true in life.

Nobody becomes confident by doing something once.
Confidence comes from competence.
And competence comes from repetition.

What is something you've gotten better at through repetition?

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Sensei Sophie

One of our favorite things to watch is when students stop focusing on themselves and start helping other students grow. That's when something starts to click.

They realize training isn't just about getting better. It's about becoming the kind of person who helps other people get better too.

That's leadership. And it usually starts with something as simple as encouraging another student, helping someone learn a skill, or taking time to make a new student feel welcome.

Proud of this group.

Give a shoutout in the comments to someone who has encouraged you recently.

Some pictures are worth more than words.

A few weeks ago, these people were brought together by a life-and-death emergency. Today, they’re standing together, smiling, celebrating, and sharing a moment that once seemed uncertain.

Looking at these photos, we’re reminded that courage often shows up in ordinary people, that community matters, and that every life is precious.

Most of all, we’re reminded of God’s faithfulness.

There is no doubt that training, quick action, skilled medical care, and the dedication of many people played a vital role in this story. But there is also no doubt in our minds that God was at work. What could have been a tragedy became a testimony.

Today, a husband is with his wife. A father is with his daughter. A family is whole.

For that, we give thanks.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” Psalm 107:1
