This is not the official JS Kenpo 5.0-Gilbert page but more a roaming Kenpo Black belt's ramblings on his time there after his own school's closing and subsequent decision to retire from running his own school. Not to mention keep FB people up on things that are going on in 5.0...
Oh, and since I'm too lazy to rewrite this whole "About" section, you'll just have to read the whole thing, meandering through my history leading up to my decision to start over with the Kenpo 5.0 system down here. So anyways, this disclaimer is complete...read on! At Warrior Way of Kenpo we teach the art of American Goju Kenpo Karate. This art can be traced back to China of 1400 years ago and is the art from which most martial arts stem. It was
developed from five basic animal forms taught to the monks of the Shaolin Temple by an Indian monk named Daruma. The monks practiced to strengthen themselves to withstand the rigors of their life and to protect themselves from robbers and outside invaders. They soon became famous for their skills and courage
throughout China. Chuan Fa was the original name for our art as it was known in China. It eventually spread to Japan where it was known as Kenpo, which means fist(ken) law(po). It was first introduced to
the United States in Hawaii at about the time of World War II by Japanese Master James Mitose. The art arrived in California in 1956 and was brought to its present form through Masters Ed
Parker and William Chow. The art of Kenpo soon became very popular in the U.S. under the tutelage of Grand Master Parker as one of the most effective self-defense systems known. Kenpo was designed to adapt to each individual’s strengths and weaknesses. This has resulted in a modern day picture which involves many different branches to the Kenpo family. The
Way of Kenpo schools attempt to bring you knowledge from as many systems as possible, allowing you to adapt the art to your own strengths. We continue to refine our art and make every effort to strengthen those qualities which are so important to surviving today’s world; self-confidence, self-discipline, and unity of a
clear calm mind and a healthy strong body.
