September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month. 🩵💜
Talking about su***de can feel scary for parents, but one of the most important things we can do is make sure our kids know:
“You can tell me the hard things.”
Sometimes emotional pain doesn't look like sadness. It can look like:
🚩 Anger
🚩 Withdrawal
🚩 Irritability
🚩 Loss of interest
🚩 Hopelessness
🚩 Changes in sleep or eating
🚩 Feeling like a burden
🚩 “I don't care anymore.”
And when we're concerned, we don't have to dance around the question.
We can ask:
“Have you been thinking about hurting yourself or dying?”
Asking doesn't put the idea in their head (that's a myth)
Remember, it all boils down to this:
💗 Connection matters.
💗 Listening matters.
💗 Asking matters.
💗 Getting help matters.
This month, let's remind our children that they don't have to carry hard things alone.
You don't have to be a perfect parent. You just have to be willing to stay connected.
