#7 Haley Shafer

Haley’s future plans are to become an elementary teacher and then eventually become a principal or an athletic director.

Haley’s favorite memory from all 4 years is the bonfires at Ava VDW’s with both the girls and boys teams.

Haley’s role model/mentor is Coach Ty because “he’s been involved in my soccer success since I was in the 3rd grade”.

Haley would like to give a shoutout to her parents “for always doing their best to show up and be at every single one of my games”.

Avarie’s future plans are to attend a 4 year college for nursing.

Avarie’s favorite memory from all 4 years is diving into puddles during sectionals against Trinity her freshman year.

Avarie’s role model(s)/mentor(s) are her parents, “I wouldn’t be where I am today without their constant love and support”.

Avarie would like to give a shoutout to, “my sister for making my soccer journey so special and giving me so many memories I will always cherish. She’s always been someone I can count on and has made every part of my journey a little better. And to Coach Joe for always pushing me to be my best, making me laugh, never missing an opportunity to bully me a little. He always knew how to make the little things fun while getting the best out of me”.

#4 Ellie “Brownie” Brown

Ellie’s future plans are to attend college for business management, continue her welding career, and eventually branch out and start her own business.

Ellie’s favorite memory from all 4 years is diving into puddles during sectionals.

Ellie’s role model/mentor is her uncle Chase Brown, “I wish to have the same work ethic and drive as him and watching him play soccer is what made me love the sport”.

Ellie would like to give a shoutout to “all of the people I’ve played with for the last 4 years. Each person has had a special place in my heart and I cannot thank them enough for playing alongside me in the sport we love”.

The Argos Lady Dragons hit the road Thursday night to take on the Morgan Township Lady Cherokees. The Dragons secured their first win of the season with a 5-2 victory.
The Dragons got on the board first when Madison Reynolds’ free kick found Emily Pippenger, who ran onto the ball, outran her defender, and took on the goalkeeper one-on-one to make it 1-0.

Minutes later, the Dragons were on the attack again. Alexa Urednick created space on the outside and sent a cross into the middle of the field, where Leah Pizzuto buried it in the back of the net to give Argos a 2-0 lead.

Just before halftime, Pizzuto scored her second goal of the night. She and Samantha Umbaugh put together some excellent combination play as they worked their way down the field and beat the goalkeeper to extend the Dragons’ lead to 3-0.

Morgan Township came out strong in the second half, scoring twice early to cut the Dragons’ lead to just one goal.

With 10 minutes remaining, the Dragons earned a corner, and after the ball bounced around in the box, Haley Shafer was there to clean it up and find the back of the net, making it a 4-2 game.

The final goal of the night came in the 76th minute. Pizzuto broke away and capped off her hat trick with a well-placed shot beyond the goalkeeper’s reach, giving the Dragons a 5-2 victory.

The Dragons improve to 1-2-2 on the season and will take a brief hiatus before returning to action Thursday, September 3, when they once again hit the road to take on the Tippecanoe Valley Lady Vikings.

The Argos Lady Dragons traveled to Newton Park Tuesday evening to take on the LaVille Lady Lancers. In a physical battle marked by excellent ball management from the Dragons, the game ultimately ended in a 0-0 draw.
The Dragons created numerous opportunities and controlled possession in the Lancer half for the majority of the match.

Leading the defensive effort, seniors Avarie Hines and Leah Pizzuto worked alongside sophomores Madi Reynolds and Avery Binfet to contain the Lancer attack and provide support to freshman goalkeeper Kinzey Prochno. Prochno earned her first varsity minutes and recorded a shutout.

In the midfield, seniors Hayna Willis and Haley Shafer managed the pace and flow of the game, with rotating assistance from freshman Emma Langfeldt and seniors Samantha Umbaugh, Elliana Brown, and Ava VanDerWeele.

Offensively, juniors Elaina Conklin and Emily Pippenger worked with freshmen Alexa Urednick, Megan Pippenger, and Harper Ripley, senior Katherine Horta Suarez, and sophomore Peytyn Willis to create scoring opportunities and apply quick, early pressure to the Lancer defensive line.

Although the final score was not what the Dragons had hoped for, the team continues to show progress through its first four games. Argos now holds a 0-2-2 record, with three of its four games being decided by a single goal or less.

The Lady Dragons will look to build on their momentum Thursday when they travel to take on Morgan Township.
