If you can't ban the gun, you bankrupt the maker. If you can't ban the owner, you ban the ammo. If you can't ban the carry, you ban the locations. It is an all-out effort to make gun ownership in Illinois extinct.
To believe these lawmakers are simply well-intentioned but 'ignorant' of the gun world is a mistake. This is not accidental; it is a coordinated, taxpayer-funded campaign to systematically dismantle the Second Amendment. By attacking the manufacturer, the retailer, the ammunition, and the carrier simultaneously, they are using the state's power to make your rights a logistical and financial impossibility.
The Illinois Strategy: Regulation by Attrition
The Gun Dealer "Purge" (SB 337) — [CURRENT LAW]
Result: Eliminate local gun stores. By creating redundant state fees and $10k mandates, the state has already forced 36% of Illinois dealers to close their doors.
The PICA Act (HB 5471) — [CURRENT LAW]
Result: Mass confiscation through registration. By banning 170+ models and standard-capacity magazines, the state has turned common items into contraband and created a digital map of who owns what for future enforcement.
Public Transportation Carry Ban (430 ILCS 66/65) — [CURRENT LAW]
Result: Make your CCL useless for commuters. Following the Supreme Court's refusal to hear the case this week, the state has successfully stripped the right to self-defense from anyone who relies on a bus or train.
The Safe Gun Storage Act (SB 8) — [CURRENT LAW]
Result: Eliminate "ready" home defense. By raising the liability age to 18 and mandating locked containers, the state has made it a $10,000 legal trap to have a firearm accessible for a middle-of-the-night emergency.
The RIFL Act (HB 3320) — [PROPOSED LEGISLATION]
Result: Bankrupt the firearm industry. By imposing nearly $1 billion in variable "fees" on manufacturers and banning the sale of used guns, the state is trying to make it financially impossible for any brand to do business in Illinois.
Ammunition Serialization (HB 4414) — [PROPOSED LEGISLATION]
Result: A total ban on ammunition. By requiring serial numbers on both the bullet and the case—a technology that does not exist—the state is creating a requirement that no manufacturer can meet, effectively ending ammo sales.
The "Convertible Pistols" Bill (HB 4471) — [PROPOSED LEGISLATION]
Result: Ban the most popular handguns in America. By labeling Glocks and other striker-fired pistols as "readily convertible," the state aims to outlaw the sale of the primary tools used for modern self-defense.
Firearm Insurance Task Force (HB 43) — [PROPOSED LEGISLATION]
Result: A "Poll Tax" on the 2nd Amendment. The goal is to mandate private insurance, forcing you to pay a monthly "subscription fee" to a corporation just to exercise a constitutional right.
