Asheville Shuri-ryu Karate-do Kai

We are a true karate-do dojo teaching Okinawan Shuri-ryu / Shorei-kempo and Goju-Shorei-ryu. Our students learn tuite waza, kyusho-jitsu, kobudo, judo and jui-jitsu. We place strong emphasis on practical and efficient self-defense. Classes are taught by master instructor, Karl K Wagner, hachi-dan black belt / kyoshi titled. Nearing 47 years in his martial arts training, sensei Wagner is committed

to providing excellence in the martial arts experience for each student. His spot-on application of teaching proper technique for best results in self defense is astonishing. Our dojo is a testimony to Sensei Wagner's commitment. Located in the picturesque mountain valley of Avery Creek on private property, the dojo consists of a large bamboo hardwood 2000 square foot training deck, added in our 2015 expansion, adjoined to his old home by a spacious waiting room. Parents and family members can enjoy a view window seating for watching the training students. The older portion of the dojo, which was once sensei Wagner's family home, provides two bathrooms, both a men's and women's changing rooms, a library, kitchen, meeting room and sensei's office. The dojo was built with proper attention to traditional feng shui settings and keeps with traditional Okinawan dojo arrangement. After a short drive of 100 yards from the paved access road, one enters a spacious parking area. Our surroundings are well kept and personal, but open to the enjoyment of our students and visitors.
