Most dogs bring back sticks… Rudy apparently skipped right past that and decided a giant stump was a better idea. 🤣

You truly never know what this little dog is going to bring me. One minute he’s retrieving birds, the next he’s trying to haul off half a tree. Crazy little dog, but life is never boring with Rudy!

What’s the weirdest thing your dog has ever brought you? 😂🐶

Another day helping a local dairy reduce nuisance pigeons and enjoying some great action with good friends. Plenty of laughs, nonstop harassment over missed shots, and a memorable finish with one of the coolest colored birds we’ve ever added to the pile. Days like these are about more than just the shooting—good camaraderie, helping the dairies, and making memories in the field.

What was your favorite colored pigeon you’ve ever seen?

Kinda late in the season for these boys to be showing off, but I guess the cooler weather has them feeling frisky. 😂

Gave them the old horn honk trick and sure enough… they fired right back on cue. Works every time! 🦃🤣

Anybody else tried this, or are these toms just easy to fool?

Good morning! We’re taking advantage of the cooler weather and putting some miles under a big crew of dogs. There’s nothing better than starting the day with excited dogs and plenty of ground to cover. Hope everyone is having a great day and making the most of it!

She started the movie as a bird dog and finished it thinking she’s part of Dom’s crew. Not sure if she’s into American muscle or imports, but one thing’s for sure… around here, it’s all about family. 🐾❤️

Some birds just stop you in your tracks. This beautiful feral pigeon was harvested during a pigeon control hunt at the dairy, and the colors and patterns are unlike any other bird I’ve taken. One of the things I enjoy most about these hunts is finding those rare, unique birds that stand out from the rest. Nature never stops producing amazing variations, and this one was definitely a special addition to the list.

Today’s hunt had a little bit of everything. Decoy setup, birds working, shots behind the blind, and even some curious cows hanging out right behind us. 😂

Pigeons can become a major nuisance around dairies, consuming feed and creating sanitation issues. The owners were excited to have us there helping reduce the population, and we were happy to do our part.

Not every hunt is about trophies. Sometimes it’s about helping local producers and having a good time doing it.

Pigeon Decoy Pro Tip

Here’s a simple trick we’ve been using for years. GHG silhouette decoys aren’t just for the ground. The stake slides perfectly over panel gates, pipe fences, and similar structures, putting birds up higher where they can be seen from farther away.

Adding a few elevated decoys creates a more realistic look and gives incoming pigeons something that stands out. Sometimes the easiest tricks are the most effective.

This is a drill we work on almost every day.

Pete locks up on point. Rudy honors. I call Rudy to heel, have him sit, walk in to flush the bird, and then send him for the retrieve.

Steadiness, patience, and teamwork don’t happen by accident. They’re built one repetition at a time.

The hunt is won long before opening day.

Some dogs avoid water. Roxi and Rudy aren’t those dogs.

After spending time working around the pond, both dogs were completely soaked for the ride back to the barn. The dogs were wet, the seats were wet, and I was wet too. Just another day with a pair of water-loving hunting dogs.
