Busy weekend for Johnny’s Gym

Long time client and now part of our Remote Coaching Program, Christine set herself a goal of competing for the first time in 8 years. After taking time off from training to start a career in pediatrics, birthing 3 children and just living life, she felt motivated to get back into a self care routine.

We had 8 weeks to prepare, and that cycle of training was not without obstacles. Busy Work and Family, sick kids, aches and pains… All part of life.

Still though, despite the obstacles, she did everything she could and this weekend completed her goal of stepping on the platform again for a weightlifting competition.

She snatched 44kg and Clean & Je**ed 62kg (her bodyweight)
This is only 12kg off her best total set 8 years ago.

She kept her composure, trusted my coaching during the moments and performed with ferocity and confidence.

I can’t wait to see what’s next for you Christine! I am proud to be part of it and I am with you all the way.

Two of our other Remote Clients Grace and Rina had Kendo Demo this weekend.

They are big martial arts fans and in addition to training with me 4-5 times per week they also practice Kung Fu and Kendo multiple times weekly.

Kendo has been a male dominant art for a long time, so I think it is super cool to see more women jumping in, especially with the vigor that Grace and Rina have.

Not only did they do great, and looked bad ass, but during event prep, they volunteered to do most of the set up and heavy lifting with ease.

Parents, we all want the best for our kids.

We want them to be able to explore in ways than we could and to have opportunities that we didn’t have growing up.

I get it. Its one of the primary thoughts in my head as a father of a 3 year old that’s growing up way too fast.

I have first hand experience seeing what the possibilities are when a young one is exposed to movement training.

And I don’t mean Heavy Back Squats for 7 year olds.

You have to train children and teens differently than adults… Not because of growth stunting. Thats a myth.

Using the right tools in coaching from ages 8-12 is an amazing baseline that creates an Athletic Explosion once Puberty hits. Its pretty phenomenal!

That’s why I wanted to create a Teens Program!

We have two levels:
8-12yrs - where the focus is building the athlete.
Movement.
Coordination.
Fascia Development.

13-18yrs - Where the focus is on Athletic Performance and Injury Prevention
General Strength Training
Sport Specific Strength Training
Speed and Dynamic Power Training
Mobility
Durability

We do all of this in a class settings so that the kids can also learn how working together creates cohesion, team work, accountability and motivation.

You want to make a change but you don’t know where to begin.

So you join a gym and have access to all the equipment you need. You follow all the fitspiration influencers on IG to see different exercises to do, but you are stuck between to lack of knowing how to make it all work together and the worry that you might hurt yourself trying.

Most of you are taking good care of yourself. This current generation is more health minded than the ones before it, and that’s why I’m talking to you…. FOR THEM.

Almost all of know and care for someone who is over 60 and has experienced a decline in the health.

It’s pretty common. Losing strength, muscle mass, weakening of the bones, loss of energy, weight gain, diabetes, heart disease… These are all things seniors are more likely to face if they didn’t take care of themselves in their 30s and 40s like we all are trying to do now.

The good news about this is that it is completely preventable.

I have seen with my own eyes how resistance training (scaled to the right degree) has revitalized men and women over 60 in my gyms.

Members of our senior program do it a bit differently than our regular 1-on-1 session members:

- Shorter Sessions. 30 minutes is enough time to focus on a single stimulus for the body. This way, our Seniors don’t wake up the next morning overly sore and less functional.
- Nutrition. Learning to optimize your health starts with making sure you know what to eat.
- With you every step of the way. Constant supervision during movements help make sure you are always safe inside the gym.
- Affordable Rates. Most Seniors are on fixed incomes. We respect that. Our shorter sessions also lower the cost of training to make it fit for those who are budget minded.

What happens during an Inbody Scan Appointment?

We perform the initial scan - this takes about 3 minutes and gives us a tremendously detailed breakdown of your body composition and hydration levels.

We spend about 5-7 min going over the scan results. Explaining in detail what each data metric actually means.

Then we close the session by fielding any questions you might have about the results of your scan. This may include questions about training and nutrition to help you eventually seat the metrics of the scan to a healthier level than you are currently.

It’s a very useful and informative session.

And for the rest of this month - the appointment cost is being dropped to $25.

Johnny’s Gym is proud to have an 380 scale.

This scale doesn’t just offer you bodyweight accuracy…

It gives consistently accurate analysis of:

Bodyweight
Lean Mass
Fat Mass
Body Fat Percentage
Hydration Levels

In addition to the above, you will also be able to see your segmental Lean and Fat mass - essential for balancing out the body.

Your Basal Metabolic Rate is calculated as well, giving insight into to how to properly fuel yourself as your metrics shift over time.

During your scan appointment - Coach Johnny will take you through the initial scan using the Inbody380 machine. A print out will be made for you to take home.

Coach Johnny will then explain all the metrics on your results sheet.

Afterwards, he will field any questions you might have about the information on the sheet or how to make adjustments to your food to help sway the scale in future scans.

It’s so much more than just your bodyweight.

It is insight into how your body changes based on the effort you are making. The more you know, the more accurate your efforts become.
