Apex Lap Attack recap –
Showed up with a plan to run two cars, two classes – Miata and C8 Z06. Incredibly tough to switch cars with vastly different pace. Louis Gigliotti Racing tapped Grayson to pilot his shop test mule.
Friday test day (VIP Hallett) – A couple sessions on the Miata then onto the C8Z with the OE wheels, tires (old and worn out PSC2R’s). Whoa…..it’s bad fast! 1:16.2 Saved the older scrub slicks for Sat.
Sat ran the first two of 5 sessions in the Miata. Motor is tired only ran a 1:24.7 and we are outgunned by a Cayman, older Vantage and a hot CRX. Miata shelved for the weekend.
Session 3 brought the paddock to the fence. C8Z straight piped and no cats sounds like the Kraken had been unleashed at Hallett. Conner, Grayson and Austen Dinger (heavily modded C7 GS on Michelin SM8 stickers) are trading fast laps working traffic. The slow lap attack cars (LA5)are doing 1:50 lap times where the fast four LA1 cars are passing the back of the field every three laps. Strategy to get an open run is a factor of course. Going into session 5 Conner leads by .2 at 1:15.5. Grayson clipped the class on the last lap of session 5 in the heat of the day at 1:15.3 for 1st place.
Sunday has only three sessions but now running clockwise. Only Austen Dinger and Grayson trading lap times going back and forth for the fastest lap throughout each session. Session two the traffic was really bad allowing only 3 open laps. Austen lays down a 1:15.382 with Grayson 1:15.44. Session 3 the tires on the rear started giving up and could not best those times at a 1:15.486.
C8Z specs - 3490lbs, ¼ tank fuel with driver, most interior removed, race seat, exhaust, wheels/4-5 session Michelin S7M rear tires/S8M fronts, Girodisc rotors – otherwise stock! So impressed with this platform and what I know is in development it is only going to get better.
