Good morning everybody, I know everybody is patiently waiting for the date of the field ceremony, I’m sorry to announce that will take place next summer. With the loss of our father, Tomi and I have decided to wait another year as this year has been very rough for us and time consuming. The scoreboard has been purchase and delivered. We will be placing that in the next month or so along with a new playground. Tomi and I will work on a date for next summer to get that information out as soon as possible, so those from out of town can make plans to be there. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause

In honor of National Women’s Day, I would like to take a moment to recognize my mother Maree Maybee Drennan. In the seventies there was no women’s league for softball, she asked to play on the men’s team and was told no. So she started an all women’s team of her own and that eventually turned into the women’s softball league based out of Arcade. (Tri-county Women’s league, I believe) Her league grew and after her passing, her close friends continued her legacy and named their team Maree’s. They went on to win many championships and encourage women of all races and ages to play the game of softball which she loved so much. My early years were spent watching her play, aggressive, competitive and athletically. I believe she was a role model to many local women to pick up a glove/bat and show the men they could play. I know a lot of you played either with her against her or were able to play because of her. She was a true leader and barrier breaker. So today I recognize my mother, the softball player

So yesterday was Maree’s 75th Birthday, it was also National Girls and Women in sports day. So it was very fitting that on this day, I’m happy to announce we donated our funds to the Village of Arcade to have a scoreboard installed at Unity Field. We were able to give them $5,095 in money that all of you donated! I can’t thank all of you enough. We will be having a dedication ceremony this summer/spring. I’m waiting on the softball schedules to come out so we don’t interfere with them, but also so they can be there to celebrate with all of us. Stay tuned for that date and thank you again to all who donated, your funds did not go to waste and are greatly appreciated by myself, Maree’s family and the supporters of softball
