So often we predominantly see our so called weaknesses and forget to celebrate the little things, such as playing with waves or making surfboard hangers with mom, and how important following passion can be for us.
I love surfing; it often is my salvation, reset, reminder, cleanser, or magnigier for that of which I need to see.
Thanks for these clips . Contests can be a whirlwind. In reflection, I hope those who I saw in a flash and didn’t see this weekend… well, thank you all for being a part of this journey called life. We are here, now.

April 5, Would have been Ethan Brostedt’s birthday today. Grateful for having shared some years with this man in my early 20’s. A pivotal person in my life, continuously shining light. My Christmas present 2001… my first surfboard blank (A double stringer 9’8”Y).Wwe built our first boards together at the Wildo in SB where the 101 has been widened over.
This photo taken by I don’t know who… probably the summer we lived out of our trailer in Malibu teaching surfing. Ethan built me my first shaping room on the side of my mom’s townhouse (thanks Mom and Lance !) wood came mostly from dumpster diving at Amgen construction sites in Newbury Park 🤣 Ethan helped facilitate my first album, True to Myself. The song featured stemmed from the memory of how we first met and he let barrow his , named The Avocado Balloon.
I lived with Ethan in a tiny room in Santa Barbara while I went to school to study music at Santa Barbara City College. We had a beautiful back yard bordered with tall hedges and filled with succulent plants he had propagated and helped thrive with love and care. He was always creating. He was as kind as they come. An amazing film maker. Incredible water man. Outside of the box thinker. Gentle soul.
So grateful to have known him.
