Our Story

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day, teach a man to fish feed him for a lifetime. The meaning behind this adage is at the heart of the Holiday Ranch philosophy. This is a universal principal that we believe applies to children, adults, horses and dogs and probably most of Gods creations. When someone young or old is taught solid fundamentals of practical horsemanship their only limit is their own aspirations regardless of the riding discipline they pursue. Horses also benefit greatly from this basic principal, when solid practical basic skills are engrained, things like standing for the farrier, loading, and opening gates are merely a simple application of the learned skills. Holiday Ranch is owned and operated by Ellen Mayberry, professional horseman, providing 30 years of experience. We are located in historical Appomattox, Virginia nestled within 20,000 acres of State forest. The Ranch is in close proximity to riding trails, and other local attractions.
