I wanted to share this from a great friend LF mine, former college coach and trainer of thousands of young ladies annually.
“PLEASE READ AND PASS ON
Not a day goes by that I don’t get a phone call or an email asking if I can get one of the girls I’ve trained through college to help coach teams. Let me make this clear. Over the years I have referred many great young women to help coach. It brings me great sadness to say that it lasts a couple of years at most and then they leave the game. They leave the game that they love!!! Why? Why do they leave the game? Why do they leave the kids? Why aren’t there more great female coaches out there? For that matter why do male coaches leave too? There’s a lot of great male coaches that are fed up. I try to remind them that they are in it for the kids not the stupid parents. I try to talk them off the ledge of quitting.
It’s simple. There’s one main problem that has gotten worse and worse over the past 10 years. I talk about this every summer. THE PARENTS!!
I am so disappointed when I get emails and texts about parents yelling at umpires and degrading young women/men that are giving up their summers to help your children! Honestly you should be ashamed. You are embarrassing yourself and most importantly your children! Your kids learn from you! Your actions and words help shape them. If you are out there acting like an ass PLEASE STOP!!!
These coaches put in time and money out of their own pockets to get treated like crap from people that think they know the game better than them. If you do, why aren’t you coaching? Just for one second put yourself in their shoes. It’s extremely hard to please 12-14 sets of parents every game.
Last time I checked softball and baseball were team sports. That’s right TEAM!!
T = TOGETHER
E = EVERYONE
A = ACHIEVES
M = MORE
That means we put WE BEFORE ME! It’s about all the kids. NOT JUST YOURS!! How many of you actually take the time to send a text or email thanking people for the time they spend with your kids? A teacher? A coach? A trainer? They are the ones trying to be good role models for your children!! They are doing the job that some of you are not!! You are the first to bitch about things when they don’t go your way and brag when your kid is the star. Of course we are happy when they do well but remember your kid wouldn’t be the star if it wasn’t for the people helping them along the way.
I thought this pandemic would change our outlook a little on life. Make us realize what’s really important. I love that you wanna be there to watch and support your kids but I’m begging you. Be the male or female role model that your children will look up to! Be a great Team parent not just an advocate for your child. Cheer on other kids as well. Show good sportsmanship on and off the field. Take a moment to thank your coaches for taking time away from their families to help yours! We need more of those kind of people in the world.
THANK AN UMPIRE. offer them a bottle of water! Do you know that 70% of them are quitting the profession!! Quitting because of nasty people that degrade them!!
Please understand that your actions and words have a direct impact on your children and the program that you are playing for. If you have nothing nice to stay go sit in the car with the air conditioning on and read a book. Maybe a book about anger management or how to be the parent that children love, respect and look up to.
I will always be grateful to my mom. My number one supporter still at 83 years old. She is the one that instilled compassion, good morals, and shaped my character. I hope down the line your children will say that about you.
You can’t change the past, but you can change today and tomorrow. The question is...WILL YOU!!
Please think next time before you open your big mouth! Think about the little kid out there that needs his/her mom or dad to be supportive not a spectacle of negativity!!
Wishing all of you a Happy 4th of July!! 🎇 🎉
