Release from the Antigo Athletic Department:

On Monday evening, Antigo Athletics celebrated the accomplishments of senior Olivia Hofrichter as she officially committed to continue both her academic and wrestling career at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.

Family, coaches, and Athletic Director Tom Schofield gathered to recognize Hofrichter's outstanding achievements and the impact she has had on the Antigo wrestling program. Olivia will join the UW–Stevens Point Women's Wrestling program while pursuing a degree in Business beginning in the 2026-27 academic year.

During the signing ceremony, Hofrichter reflected on what inspired her to continue wrestling at the collegiate level.

"I've always loved wrestling, and I know there are younger wrestlers watching," Hofrichter said. "I hope that by competing in college, I can show younger athletes, especially girls, that there are opportunities to continue wrestling beyond high school."

Throughout her high school career, Hofrichter established herself as one of Wisconsin's top girls wrestlers. Her accomplishments include winning the 2025 WIAA Girls Individual State Championship and earning a state placewinner finish in 2026. Beyond her success on the mat, she has been a role model for younger wrestlers and an ambassador for the continued growth of girls wrestling in Wisconsin.

When asked about the lessons wrestling has taught her, Hofrichter pointed to the resilience the sport demands.

"Wrestling has made me a stronger person," she said. "It has taught me how to handle adversity, work through challenges, and keep going even when things are difficult. The hardest part is showing up some days, but if you keep going, you'll be grateful for everything the sport teaches you."

Hofrichter is excited to continue balancing academics and athletics at the collegiate level.

"I'm excited to earn my business degree and continue wrestling at the next level," she said. "I've always balanced school, work, and wrestling, so I'm looking forward to the opportunities and challenges that college will bring."

As she prepares for her next chapter, Hofrichter expressed appreciation for those who helped her reach this milestone.

"My sister inspired many of my goals when I was younger, and my coaches have pushed me to become a better wrestler and person every day," she said. "I also want to thank my parents, siblings, teammates, youth wrestlers, and the entire Antigo community. The support I've received has meant so much."

Antigo Athletics congratulates Olivia on her tremendous accomplishments and wishes her continued success as she begins her collegiate wrestling career with the Pointers.

The Antigo Wrestling Club lost a long-time member of our family on Tuesday, Brian Edwards.

Mr. Edwards competed for the Antigo High School in the early 80’s, and then spent the next 40 years helping develop our athletes.

He carried the Greco and Freestyle teams on his back for many years, and helped continue the proud tradition of Antigo Wrestling.

While we are deeply saddened by his passing, the life lessons and skills that Mr. Edwards instilled into our athletes will continue to be seen for generations.

Olivia Hofrichter Captures Championship At 2026 Northern Plains Regional Championships

With some of the best athletes in the Midwest competing, the 2026 Northern Plains Regional Championships were action packed from start to finish. Hosted at the Woodside Dome in Wisconsin Dells this year, the Antigo Wrestling Club was represented by a pair of athletes.

Olivia Hofrichter finished atop the Junior Girls Greco 145-pound bracket. In the first round, Hofrichter competed with Natalie Robles of Eastside Wrestling Club of Minnesota. Hofrichter scored first with a belly-to-belly suplex from an over/under position for a four-point takedown. Robles countered with an arm throw off a double handed overhook to even the score at four. Near the midpoint of the period, Hofrichter secured a lateral from the feet and putting Robles shoulders to the mat for the pinfall victory at 1:26.

Hofrichter faced Violet Weninger of Matpac out of Bismark, North Dakota next. Weninger was a Fargo Nationals qualifier last year.
Hofrichter used a pair of belly-to-belly body locks to quickly earn an 8-0 technical fall. The 55 second victory was the finishing touch on her path to earning first place.

Hofrichter also competed in freestyle. After a bye in the first round, Hofrichter met Sophia Hoeme in the quarterfinals. Hoeme competes for Kansas and was a Folkstyle All-American finishing in 7th at the 2026 USA Wrestling Junior Folkstyle National Championships this past March.

Hofrichter needed only 16 seconds to hit a headlock for a four-point takedown and the early lead. Near the one-minute mark, Hofrichter added four points with a feet-to-back lateral. Hoeme scored with a fireman’s carry before Hofrichter added another lateral, this time from the knees. A late reversal by Hoeme ended the first round 10-5 in favor of Hofrichter.

Hoeme scored a pair of takedowns to cut the lead to 10-9 in the second period, but Hofrichter finished strong with a four-point lateral and a body lock takedown for the 16-9 victory.

In the semifinals, Hofrichter faced Anna O’Rear of Mission Athletics out of Iowa. Hofrichter tried to battle through an injury occurred in the Hoeme match, but was unable to wrestle at her potential as O’Rear won via 10-0 technical fall. Hofrichter would medically withdraw and finish in sixth place.

Competing in the Junior Greco 190-pound bracket was Jordan Pregler. In his first match, Pregler faced Tate Sailer of Matpac out of Mandan, North Dakota. Sailer finished in fifth place at Freestyle nationals last year, and was a National finalist in Greco.

Sailer executed an arm spin for four points and a pair of front headlock roll throughs to earn the 10-0 technical fall victory.

In his consolation match, Pregler faced Samuel Cushman of The Wrestling Academy out of Barrington, Illinois. Cushman competed at Nationals last year, finishing just off the podium after collecting four victories in Freestyle.

Cushman used a snap down to get to the top front headlock position, and then hit a go behind for the initial takedown. On top, he added a pair of gutwrenches to take an early 6-0 lead. Back on the feet, Cushman countered a lateral attempt by Pregler with a body lock, securing the 10-0 technical fall victory.

Northern Plains is the end of the regular season for Greco and Freestyle. Up next will be the National Duals (in Milwaukee for the Gentlemen and Indiana for the Ladies). The highlight of the summer will be Fargo Nationals in mid-July.

Samson Smith, Joseph Stimac, Gryphon Beer Finish On Podium At WWF Greco-Roman State Championships

The Antigo Wrestling Club was well represented at the WWF Greco-Roman State Championships with three wrestlers finishing the day on the podium. Of those three, Samson Smith was able to finish as runner-up and qualify for the Fargo Junior National Tournament.

Samson Smith started his tournament with a quarterfinal match against Alan Hamre of Fort Atkinson. Smith came out explosive, needing only ten seconds to secure double overhooks and launch Hamre to his back, securing the pinfall victory in 18 seconds.

The semi-finals saw Smith drop a match to eventual champion Preston Krueger of Aviators Wrestling via 8-0 technical fall.

After a forfeit victory over Christian Johnson of Ringers, Smith faced Owen Mueller-Wolf of Ripon in the third-place match. Mueller-Wolf started strong, scoring the first six points. Smith then used a pair of double overhook throws, one with exposure, to tie the match at six. Mueller-Wolf earned a reversal without exposure for a point, then Smith transitioned from a double overhook throw to a headlock, earning the pinfall victory at 2:37.

In the second-place match, Smith faced Owen Lueck of Valley Elite Wrestling Club. Unfortunately, Lueck was injured in a scramble 32 seconds into the match, and injury defaulted to Smith, giving the Antigo wrestler the second spot on the podium and earning a trip to nationals in July.

Joseph Stimac started his tournament with a 13-4 technical fall loss to Mason Chambers of Lacrosse Area Wrestling and looked to bounce back in the consolations against Aaron Howard of Menomonie. Howard got on the board first with an early two points and then Stimac took over. First, Stimac used a nearside overhook to step into a body lock for a takedown, then an overhook and a collar tie for an Italian lateral. In the process of attempting a gutwrench, Stimac forced Howards to commit a leg foul, giving the Antigo wrestler another set of two points. Leading 6-2, Stimac used a pair of four-point takedowns, first with an arm throw and then with a head lock, to capture the 14-4 technical fall victory.

The next round of consolations saw Stimac wrestle Bodhi Williamson of Askren Wrestling Academy. Stimac used a pair of big throws, first an arm throw and then a headlock, coupled with a two-point penalty for a leg foul against Williamson to give the Antigo wrestler a 10-0 technical fall victory.

The consolation semi-finals were contested between Stimac and Cole Bartlein of Bay Port. Stimac executed an arm throw and a counter suplex to build a 4-0 lead. At the 1:50 mark, Stimac stepped into a 360 belly to belly suplex, earning four points for a takedown with exposure, and giving the Antigo wrestler an 8-0 technical fall victory.

The third-place match saw Stimac and Colton Tollefson of DTC compete in an exciting back and forth affair. Stimac score the first takedown with a headlock before Tollefson took a 3-2 lead with a reversal without exposure and a takedown. Stimac then retook the lead with a four-point belly to belly body lock with Tollefson landing in exposure. Tollefson earned a pair of takedowns to escape the first period with a 7-6 lead.

In the second period, Tollefson was able to take Stimac down and earn the pinfall victory at 4:10. A strong fourth place showing for Stimac.

Making the podium in sixth place was Gryphon Beer. Beer started his tournament with a quarterfinal match against Dashaun Lewis of Aviators Wrestling. Twenty seconds into the match, Beer executed a double underhook body lock for a four-point takedown. On top, Beer scoring with a high gutwrench, causing Lewis to grab Beer’s leg, leading to a two-point penalty and an 8-0 technical fall victory for the Antigo wrestler.

Beer then dropped matches to Treyton Altuve of Mukwonago, Jacob Phelps of the Weigh In Club, and Samuel Moore of Freedom to finish in sixth place.

Keagan DesJarlais’s day was highlighted by a high scoring match against Brooks Clymer of Hudson. In less than three minutes, 28 points were scored! Clymer started the match with a takedown and a turn for an early four-point lead. DesJarlais executed a reversal with exposure and a side headlock to tie the match, then took the lead with a headlock for a takedown and a four-point arm throw.

Clymer secured his own takedown and a pair of trapped arm gutwrenches to tie the match at 10 after the first period.

The second period saw Clymer get a takedown to regain the lead. DesJarlais tied the match with a lateral and then used a headlock for a four-point takedown, giving the Antigo wrestler a 16-12 lead. On top, DesJarlais was able to secure the head and arm finish, picking up the pinfall victory at 2:56.

Also competing on the day were Eli Fermanich, Jack Sundermeyer, and Jordan Pregler. With seven Antigo wrestlers taking to the mats, the future is bright for the Red Robin wrestling team!

Olivia Hofrichter Pins All Competition, Wins WWF Freestyle State Championship

Antigo Wrestling standout Olivia Hofrichter collected her third WWF Freestyle Championship of her career with an impressive showing at the WWF Freestyle State Championships last Friday at the Woodside Dome in Wisconsin Dells.

Hofrichter competed in a five-girl round robin, and did not allow a single competitor to make it to the second round against her.

Hofrichter’s first opponent was Rachael Hang of Shed Wrestling.
Hofrichter needed only 33 seconds to execute a chin whip off a Hang shot attempt to earn the initial takedown. From this position, Hofrichter executed a side headlock for the pinfall at the 39 second mark.

Up next for Hofrichter was Kylie Simpson of Victory School of Wrestling. Simpson earned the first takedown before Hofrichter used a whip over and a lateral for a pair of four-point takedowns to take an 8-2 lead. On top from the lateral, Hofrichter maintained scarf position for the pinfall victory at 1:45.

Caroline Christopher of Aviators Wrestling challenged Hofrichter next. Hofrichter earned a scramble from a Christopher shot and then executed a lateral to build an early 6-0 lead. Hofrichter once again maintained scarf position off the lateral and earned the pinfall victory at the 39 second mark.

The final competitor Hofrichter faced was Maya Assad Thompson of Askren Wrestling Academy. Hofrichter used a pair of whipovers to build an early 4-0 lead, then transitioned to scarf position, earning her fourth pinfall of the day, and her third Freestyle state championship.

By placing on top of the podium, Hofrichter earned the right to represent Wisconsin at the USA Wrestling Junior National Tournament in Fargo, North Dakota in July. This will be the fourth trip to the national tournament for Hofrichter.
