Severn Sailing Association

Severn Sailing Association Severn Sailing Association is a member-run sailing and racing club. We feature a full season of racing plus a winter frostbiting series.

Located in Annapolis, Maryland, SSA has a half-century tradition of high-quality one-design racing. We regularly host major regional, national and international championship events. We operate an extensive Junior Program, featuring an 8-week summer program as well as spring and fall high school team sailing. SSA's facilities support dry-sailed dinghies and small keel boats, with 3 launching cranes

and protected basins, plus large staging and dry storage areas. Our clubhouse and snack bar provide an excellent venue for after-sailing activities with an unsurpassed view of the Severn River and Annapolis Harbor from the deck. SSA’s Ashley Love and Kim Couranz are joining skipper Lijia “Lily” Xu and Michael Anne Ashford and Gretchen Esbensen in Team Magenta Project for this year’s Santa Maria Cup. Lily is an Olympic gold and bronze medalist in the Laser Radial (now ILCA 6) currently looking to move into match racing. Eastport Yacht Club’s Santa Maria Cup is the second stop on the 2026 edition of the Women’s World Match Racing Tour.

"Holly has always loved Junior Sailing. She started lessons at age eight at the Erie Yacht Club in the late seventies, when the music was better. Days were spent in class and nights sleeping on parents’ boat without the parents — the true essence of “other people’s boats.”
She was the winner of the Most Improved Girl her first year and the Myra Reyburn Sportsmanship Award years later. So you can bet she’ll get better with every race and apologize if she hits you. It was an accident."
