🚗🛌🧳🌳In honor of April being “National Stress Awareness Month” I created something special for Black women to embrace the 7 types of rest that I have been incorporating into my life for almost 5 years since my Black Girl Sabbatical!

A space for Black women to allow those around them to step up so that they could step back & prioritize them.

A space of silence, community, encouragement, vulnerability, love, nature, creativity, transparency, knowledge, tears, hope & more.

I need this space of healing, JOY & respite just as much those who will be on the land.

Fundraising, planning, organizing, soliciting items for this experience is way more complex than hosting a big ass party 🎉 🤣.

Retreats require details. A huge element of making guest feel welcomed, heard, uplifted & supported, which is what I do in creating space for Black women as their Executive Leadership Development & Transition Coach.

I am going to be intentionally present to take this all in & will not be posting any parts of this experience on social media.

You will NOT be vicariously living through me. Through us. You should have been here! 🤪

However you will continue seeing daily posts of people who have supported me by financially donating to my grassroots fundraiser & of those believed of my vision.

Creating my 1st retreat for Black women has been a huge goal of mine since I started going on retreats!

- - - - - -

PSA: after this retreat I will be going on a social media break until June 30th.

You will not see me posting. You will not see me commenting or liking.

I think I will have to delete the app off my phone.

I have continued my “season of stillness”, but haven’t shared much about it.

I will share my quarter #1 season of stillness reflections before I go offline.

I will make a formal announcement & change my banner picture.

🥳 Happy Saturday! Meet Ellen, 1 of the 8 🤍 folks who donated to my Black Girl Sabbatical grassroots retreat fundraiser last fall!

I am grateful Ellen believes in financially supporting Black women’s healing, rest, joy & respite journey!

We met virtually in June 2020 when we completed a training course to become Qualified Administrators of the The Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), which assesses intercultural competence – the capability to shift cultural perspective and appropriately adapt behavior.

We have stayed in contact over the years through the IDI Twin Cities Community of Practice (IDI TC CoP) group.

I would not have achieved my initial goal of receiving $1,771.69 to reserve the retreat center for the weekend without their donation.

I want to publicly give living🌹🌸💐🌺🌷🌷to my friend for modeling what it looks & feels like to intentionally support a Black woman.

I am so grateful we took this never posted before picture 3 years ago, 2 days before my car was stolen for the 1st time.

You can see the genuine love, joy & huge smiles on our faces. 😘

💜 & appreciate you friend! 🫂

📸 Taken March 28, 2023 after our monthly IDI TC CoP Meeting. I had suggested that we meet in person for the 1st time since the pandemic & that we intentionally support a Black Owned Business. I hosted & led this meeting at Heal MPLS in North Mpls Camden Neighborhood.

🥳 Happy Friday! Meet Pearl 1 of 3 🤎 women who donated to my Black Girl Sabbatical Retreat fundraiser last fall! We go back til 2018 when I was at the McKnight Foundation & she was at Washburn Center for Children.

I don’t remember who connected us, but someone mutual friend suggested that we needed to meet each other.

I remember coming to her job. There was a food truck out front. I believe she ordered & paid for our food & we had a great conversation before we both had to get back to work.

We have stayed in contact over the years through the IDI Twin Cities Community of Practice group.

We also intentionally check up on each other via text or phone call. She has sent me jobs to consider applying to at 11:55 PM. I told her it feels great to be thought of at the crack of dawn or in the midnight hours so keep them jobs, resources & opportunities coming!

I am grateful Pearl believes in my vision of providing Black women’s healing, rest, joy & respite journey!

I would not have achieved my initial goal of receiving $1,771.69 to reserve the retreat center for the weekend without their donation.

I am proud of the 8 🤍 of 20 people who donated for intentionally putting their money where their mouth is.

This includes the 3 🤎 men who also believe in me. I posted about them on Monday. Donte pictured with Pearl & I was one of those donors.

I want to publicly give living🌹🌸💐🌺🌷🌷to my friend for modeling what it looks & feels like to intentionally another support Black woman.

She was determined to support. She was 1 of 2 people who mailed a check to my house 😂.

💜 you boo! I appreciate the soul sistahood that we have built!

P.S we need a selfie in my phone without Donte or anyone else in it 🤣. I hope you are camera & photo ready the next time I see you! 😘

Hey sis! What is holding you back? This message is for all of the Black women who are on the fence debating upon registering to attend my upcoming retreat this weekend!

You have made a million excuses not to prioritize you in this season.

Every to do list, job tasks, person & bill is more important to take care of than yourself.

Stuck in limited beliefs & making the commitment to yourself that you will attend the next one.

What if you aren’t alive & well to make it to attend the next one?

What will happen if you continue stressing, living in the land of anxiety, people pleasing & navigating life with no boundaries?

You will stroke the f**k out, die of a heart attack, get diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, autoimmune diseases & so much more.

Right now I juggling a lot, after my unexpected Kia theft 4 weeks ago, but am standing firm in modeling what I teach my clients as an Executive Leadership Development & Transition Coach.

In real time you are seeing me “prioritizing my mental and holistic health, joy & finances in a season of transition.”

So go ahead & register now before I sell out. You don’t want to miss this experience, especially considering they probably won’t be another retreat this year without continued funding so that I could provide this experience for 2/3 of the original price.

🥳 Happy Monday! Behind Ms. Black Girl Sabbatical are 3 Black men who financially supported my retreat fundraiser last fall.

I personally texted 13 of the many Black men I have in my phone to intentionally ask them to support the healing of Black women.

In that text I shared that 🤍 folks have showed up & have been donating.

I was 35 days into my 51 day campaign & hadn’t receive not one donation from a Black man who many of them I had tagged in numerous social media posts.

I am going to be honest. I was & still am shocked, but not surprised of the response I received.

Black women show up for Black men, we show up for everybody, but we do not receive the same level of love back.

This post isn’t about comparison Olympic. It is just facts in hopes that more Black men wake up & intentionally step up.

These 3 Black men donated after I sent them the text.

4 Black men acknowledged my text & have the intent to give.

6 Black men never responded to my initial text or my follow up texts.

So yes I was ignored & ghosted by Black men who was birthed by a Black woman who most were married to Black women, had Black daughters, nieces, cousins & so forth.

I am proud of the 8 🤍 of 20 people who donated for intentionally putting their money where their mouth is.

I am even more proud & excited to publicly give living🌹🌸💐🌺🌷🌷to my friends Donte & Jamal who I have known since September 2016 when we were members of Public Allies Twin Cities 16/17 Cohort.

I am grateful for Clarence Jones, father of Lip Esteem Founder Tameka E Jones for being such a kind & loving community uncle!

This is a public post for the 🌎 to see what it looks & feels like to be a Black women who is intentionally supported by Black men.

📸 1st Photo taken of Donte, Jamal & I was in 2018 when they graduated from being an AALF Fellow. We need an updated picture of us 3 together bros!

**I had my long hair, worked at the McKnight Foundation at the time & gifted them both the “Black Excellence” lapel pins created by Houston White as their graduation gifts!

💒🔔🙏 Oh nothing just sharing my bathroom church flow photo shoot I did today. Grateful to attend my former church 2 weeks in a row!

Today’s message really resonated with me.

"The Focus Is On Jesus" | Rev. Brian McLaurin

Check out & listen to the live recording with the link in the comments!

Also grateful for my friend Wanda B. Williams & member of Progressive Baptist Church for gifting me this fabulous outfit from her closet! 😘

P.S I am growing my salt & pepper hair out for the umpteenth time. I miss having hair. Even my little cabbage patch that I had patching!

🚌🚏🚊What you know about catching public transportation? This is the face of a Black women who is determined, resilient AF, humble, down to earth, natural people person that has places to be, s**t that has to get done, a business that needs to run & money to make!

I am NOT going to let the theft of my Kia almost 4 weeks ago keep me down!

Yes I am pi**ed that a YN Kia Boy stole my s**t for the 2nd time in 3 years.

Hell yes I am frustrated that I did all I was supposed to do by having a club on it & the latest ignition upgraded just added in January.

Yes I am giving myself grace in this season for not having insurance & riding around in an uninsurable vehicle. Many Hyundai & Kia owners are after their car has been stolen & their policies are NOT being renewed thus resulting in no insurance or high ass insurance.

I have cried the tears as they come up & embrace moments of anger, being victimized again and feelings of being overwhelmed.

Owning a home in Ramsey MN & needing to move around to handle business in the cities is a nightmare.

But I am doing it with a smile on my face, faith that everything will work out, with a village of members of “Team Tosha” behind me while also prioritizing my mental health.

I am not alone in this journey.

I appreciate my best friend Juan since 7th grade (check out my previous post earlier today) who let me borrow his car for 13 days. He saved me almost $900 if I rented a Toyota Corolla through Enterprise. I asked him for 7 days, but asked for 2 extensions & he granted my request.

A special shout out to my soul sista friend Rekita Ndumbe (pic of us in the comments) for stopping by & giving me the bus pass I used today to get around. A friend of hers was giving them out a couple weeks before my car was stolen & I asked for 1 for my daughter so she could use the Lyft less…not knowing I would need a pass too.

Today I rode the bus to the MEDA - Metropolitan Economic Development Association Coffee Chat event & arrived on time. I usually arrive 30 minutes late to all MEDA events, but planning ahead allowed me to be prompt.

It was great seeing Sean, MSDENISHIA YOUR CONFIDENCE COACH MSD , Brittany Bullock , Alivia Boddie

I met a new friend on the way, Jeff who is a tattoo artist. His car is down so he has been riding the bus to work while it gets fixed.

It felt nostalgic to ride downtown Mpls & get off near my old job, McKnight Foundation. On the way back I l purchased my favorite peanut better pretzels from Trader Joe’s. I have many fond memories of walking to TJ’s & using that McKnight credit card to purchase snacks & items needed for meetings.

When it is all said & done I had a fabulous productive day & on top of enjoying a relaxing ride on the bus listening to music, a podcast & creating retreat content on social media.

This post is to remind someone out there in the universe that when life gives you lemons 🍋 made lemonade out of that bitch 🤣!
