Wrestling is a unique sport in which participants compete against others of equal weight. An athlete succeeds in wrestling based on his or her own efforts. As such, it is a great developer of self-reliance, tenacity under adversity, and hard work. As a result, the sport of wrestling helps young people develop characteristics such as self-esteem, sportsmanship, work ethic, leadership, and grit.
