What We Learned About Michigan Basketball in Europe | Mike Martin Joins Go Blue Hoops Ep 49

Michigan Basketball returns from its 2026 European Tour with plenty to break down — from Trey McKenney and Elliot Cadeau’s emergence to Brandon McCoy Jr.’s season-ending ACL injury and what the Wolverines learned about their roster before the 2026–27 college basketball season.

On this episode of Go Blue Hoops, Tim McCormick breaks down Michigan’s three-game European trip, including the Wolverines’ performances against international competition, player development, lineup combinations and the strengths that could make Michigan a contender at the top of the Big Ten.

Tim takes a closer look at Trey McKenney’s growing offensive confidence, what Michigan needs from Elliot Cadeau, and the size, toughness and physicality that J.P. Estrella and Moustapha Thiam bring to the frontcourt. He also discusses the impact of losing five-star freshman Brandon McCoy Jr. for the season and what his development could look like moving forward.

Then, Tim sits down with new Michigan assistant coach Mike Martin for an in-depth conversation about his journey to Ann Arbor and the next chapter of Michigan basketball.

Martin discusses his coaching philosophy, evaluating and developing players, building relationships through recruiting and what he has learned about the Wolverines since joining the program. The conversation also explores Michigan’s championship standard, the value of the European tour, the resources available at Michigan and how the coaching staff is preparing this roster for another run through the Big Ten and NCAA Tournament.
