We’re proud to share that CLR Academy has been named Partner Organization of the Year by the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office.

Over the past five years, CLR Academy has grown from a grassroots idea into a community-driven platform focused on developing minds, bodies, and futures. Through free sports programming, mentorship, education, and wellness initiatives, we’ve had the opportunity to serve and support hundreds of young people across Washtenaw County.

This recognition is a reflection of our kids, our families, our coaches, and our partners who show up every day and believe in what’s possible.

We’re incredibly grateful—and we know the work is just beginning.

We kicked off Part 1 of our Fashion Creation Workshop with an incredible visit from Desyree Nicole at CLR Academy.

Our students had the opportunity to learn directly from a rising designer—exploring how ideas turn into real designs, and how creativity can become a pathway to confidence and future opportunity. The energy in the room was powerful, and this is just the beginning.

Black history is meant to be experienced.

This past Saturday, CLR Academy welcomed back the Black History 101 Mobile Museum as part of our Black History in Motion event. Through the ABC’s of Black History, our students explored powerful stories, artifacts, and lessons that bring history to life.

Partnerships like this help us ensure the next generation not only learns history — but understands the legacy they are a part of.

This is what legacy in motion looks like — mentors showing up, young leaders stepping forward, and a community choosing to invest in its future.

Our history was built by those who refused to accept limits. They organized. They educated. They poured into one another. That same spirit lives here — in these rooms, on these courts, in these conversations.

At CLR Academy and through Washtenaw My Brother’s Keeper, we honor the past by building the future. By teaching. By mentoring. By standing in the gap. By reminding every young person that they come from strength — and they are expected to add to it.

Yesterday’s resilience.
Today’s responsibility.
Tomorrow’s leadership.

The day opens with Washtenaw My Brother's Keeper 50 Strong Breakfast from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., bringing mentors and community members together to invest in Black and Brown boys and young men. CLR Academy then expands that circle of support through k-8 centered youth programming from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., helping young people explore identity, build leadership, and step into their own power. The day culminates with the Black History in Motion Open House experience from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., where families can learn more about CLR’s story, experience the heart of its work firsthand, and discover meaningful ways to get involved.
