The University of Michigan Golf Course was designed in the late 1920s by Alister MacKenzie, one of golf's all-time greatest architects. The Regents unofficially opened the course in the fall of 1930 as the first golfers to play the new U-M Golf Course. The course officially opened in the spring of 1931 and immediately dr

ew praise as one of the finest in America. At the time of its opening, the University Golf Course became just the fourth course to be located on a college campus. The U-M Golf Course is one of only six MacKenzie-designed golf courses in the United States, including the famed Augusta National. MacKenzie, Golf magazine's "Golf Architect of the Century" for the first 100 years of golf in America, brought his passion for the sport and of old St. The U-M Golf Course is another enduring addition to the "Athletics for All" program of U-M Athletic Director Fielding H. Yost, a program he created to touch students for generations to come. A multi-million dollar renovation completed in the spring of 1994 restored the grandeur of the University Golf Course to the ranks of MacKenzie's other classics. Orchestrating the restoration was Arthur Hills, a Michigan graduate and one of the foremost golf course architects in America. As an admirer of MacKenzie, Hills understood his focus was not a new course in Ann Arbor, but a return to MacKenzie's intent.

University of Michigan Golf Course Community,

We pride ourselves on delivering the best possible playing conditions for you at UMGC. Today, we are writing to inform you about a recent, unexpected issue affecting the turf on our greens. Over the last few days, we have experienced an unforeseen and highly unusual decline in the coloring of our putting surfaces. Our grounds team is actively monitoring the situation and developing an action plan for moving forward.

At this time, we suspect that foul play may be involved, and we are working closely with our partners at the Department of Public Safety (DPSS) to complete a full investigation. We ask if anyone in our community has any information related to this incident, please call DPSS at 734-763-1131.

We will provide updates to you as soon as we have more information to share. Thank you in advance for your patience, support, and understanding.

Today marks the end of an incredible era at UMGC.

After nearly 30 years of service, today is Scott's final day as Superintendent. His dedication, leadership, and passion have left a lasting impact on our course, our team, and countless golfers who have enjoyed UMGC over the years.

We're also saying goodbye to a familiar face around the course, Prince. Scott's loyal companion became a beloved part of the UMGC family and will be missed just as much.

As previously announced, Steve LeDuc has been named as the next Superintendent. We are excited for the future of UMGC under Steve's leadership and look forward to building on the strong foundation that Scott helped create.

Thank you, Scott, for everything you've done for UMGC. We wish you and Prince nothing but happiness and adventure in retirement.
