Lake Country Cyclists is a cycling club out of Ankeny, Iowa but we also have members in Des Moines, Johnston, Polk City, and other towns along the High Trestle Trail. Lake Country Cyclists is a cycling club that has been dedicated to cycling safety, recreation, and education since 1993! We are based out of Ankeny, Iowa but also have members in Johnston, Bondurant, Polk City, and other towns along

the High Trestle Trail and throughout the Des Moines metro and Central Iowa. LCC offers 3 standing rides each week on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Ride routes vary, and consist mostly of trails, but might also include some road riding. All rides are no-drop, meaning there is always a designated “sweep” to make sure no one is left behind. Non-members are welcome to participate in up to 2 of the weekly rides before joining but must sign a participation waiver prior to riding. The club also offers several member-only events throughout the year, including special and destination bike rides, non-ride social activities, educational programs like bike maintenance, and 2 membership meetings a year-- a spring meeting to kick off the riding season and a fall meeting to enjoy our accomplishments. Club members also volunteer in the community with monthly trail clean-up and having a booth at the Iowa Bike Expo each January. Some rides and social events are for members only. Thanks for everyone's efforts keeping our local trails clean! Our cleanup day yesterday went pretty quickly because we didn't find much trash. Thanks to those who helped with cleanup efforts- we enjoyed some relaxing time at Firecracker Brewery following our work.

I'm Jim Rasmussen and I'll be hosting the Thursday night LCC ride. We'll meet at the Albaugh Senior Center parking lot by the water tower at 5:45 and depart at 6 PM. We'll take the High Trestle Trail north to NW 126th and turn west and take Hugg Drive to Big Creek. Then we'll ride on the Neal Smith Trail over several wooden bridges to the town square in Polk City for rest and ice cream. We'll ride home on the Neal Smith Trail past the Saylorville Marina to Cherry Glen, and then take 1st Street back to the Albaugh Senior Center. Round trip should be around 20 miles. Should be a beautiful night for a ride. If you aren't an LCC member, feel free to join us to see if you'd like to take part in our club rides. Hope to see you Thursday night!
