Back to school and back to dance! 💓

There’s something so special about the little girl who walks into a dance studio with big dreams in her heart and a whole world of possibilities ahead of her.

Maybe she dreams of becoming a dance teacher. Maybe she’ll grow up to be a doctor, an artist, a mom, an engineer—or something she hasn’t even imagined yet. Somewhere along the way, dance is teaching her more than steps.

It’s teaching her to be brave when something feels hard. To keep trying when she doesn’t get it right the first time. To trust her body. To express herself. To work as a team. To celebrate someone else’s success. To stand a little taller and believe in herself a little more.
And sometimes, years later, that little girl becomes the teacher standing at the front of the room—passing those same lessons on to the next generation.

That’s the beautiful thing about dance. The impact reaches far beyond the studio.

So here’s to a new school year, a new dance season, and all the little girls dreaming about who they’ll become. ✨

Our Pre-Professional Summer Intensive was a vibe! ✨

Thank you Michael Munday, Samiyah Lynnice Burney, Sydney Markert, and Evelyn Beard for a week full of fun classes and inspiring knowledge! From LA to NY, and in between 😉, we are grateful to you for choosing to share your time and talents with our students.

Our summer intensive is an extension of the training that our pre-professional students are receiving through our year-long program. We are proud to offer training across techniques and styles to ensure our students are receiving the most comprehensive dance education possible! Thank you for adding to the MDC experience! ❤️ We are already looking forward to the next one!

Supporting the arts means showing up. 💗

We’re proud to cheer on our Midwest Dance Collective instructors as they perform at the Iowa Choreography Festival! We believe it’s important for our students to see their teachers continue creating, performing, and contributing to the vibrant Des Moines arts community.
When young dancers witness artists sharing their work, they see that dance is more than a class—it’s a lifelong passion, a way to connect, and a powerful form of expression.

If you have a dancer age 10+, we encourage you to take advantage of the incredible workshop opportunities offered throughout the festival. It’s a chance to learn from inspiring artists, explore new movement, and become part of Iowa’s thriving dance community.

We are thrilled to welcome Michael Munday and Samiyah Lynnice Burney as our visiting teaching artists, as well as our incredible MDC instructors, Sydney Markert and Evelyn Beard.

Ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, variations, Pilates, and more! You won’t want to miss our Industry Q & A on Thursday to learn all the ins and outs of working professionally in the dance industry. With experiences in college dance programs, across different genres, concert dance, commercial dance, touring, teaching, choreographing, and business ownership- this is the most well-rounded group of artists to learn from!

Today we celebrate the birthday of Bob Fosse — a legendary artist whose style, musicality, storytelling, and creative vision left a lasting imprint on the world of dance.

At Midwest Dance Collective, we believe great training means learning from the artists, teachers, and innovators who came before us. Our dancers are encouraged to study the great voices of dance history — not only to strengthen their technique and versatility, but to deepen their understanding of style, artistry, and the rich legacy that continues to shape this art form.
We’re grateful for the timeless influence of artists like Fosse, and we hold closely the reminder that dance is not only built on discipline and dedication, but on joy.

At MDC, we believe hard work and joy can — and should — coexist in dance training. Dancers can be challenged, mentored, and pushed toward excellence while still finding freedom, connection, and delight in the process.

What a beautiful day celebrating the talent, dedication, and joy of our dancers at our 2026 Showcase! From our tiniest performers to our adult dancers, every dancer stepped onto the stage with courage, confidence, and heart, truly letting their light shine.

Thank you to our incredible dancers for sharing your gifts, our families for your endless support, our instructors and staff for your passion and commitment, our volunteers for keeping everything running smoothly, and our community members who continue to believe in what we do.

A special thank you to everyone who filled the audience and cheered on our dancers. Your encouragement helps make moments like these unforgettable.
