There’s a lot of confusion around calories, macros, if carbs are bad for us, and nutrition as a whole. So let’s chat about the research:
A study published in Aug 2021 (PMID 34578880) showed that calorie restriction was the single most important factor for weight loss and metabolic health in comparison to macronutrient distribution. Low fat diets and high protein diets improved glucose tolerance and blood total cholesterol, while low carb diets improved triacylglycerol levels but not cholesterol levels.
To break that down: calorie restriction, not macronutrient distribution, is the most important factor in improving body composition and glucose control AND low fat(NOT low carb) and high protein diets are associated with greater weight loss compared to low carb diets. If you have triglyceride imbalances, low carb might be the way to go- but for everyone else- EAT THAT BREAD(or pasta or whatever else you want) 🍞😋
