Delta Paintball Team 2002 – 2022 [We’re not dead YET]
I have been trying to craft the perfect message to express my thoughts and feelings regarding Delta Paintball Team turning 20 years old today. 20 years, wow!
It’s amazing to think how much the world has changed over these past 20 years and what the team and it’s members have seen and experienced. Through the ups and downs, the team has remained together. We have had members come and go over the years, but the one constant was that the team would still be there. I am proud to know that we have always had the unwritten rule to welcome anyone back with open arms as if they never had left.
The unbelievable stories that the team could tell from the last 20 years would fill a book or two that you would have to be 18+ to purchase. From the crazy (and often forgettable) 4-keg weekends at the bunkhouses, to the hijinks on and off the field, to visiting parts of the country that we would never see otherwise, the team became more than that. It became a family. We attended each other’s weddings, helped welcome babies to the world, helped christen the bathrooms at new home purchases and sadly attended a few funerals. Through it all, the team was there.
Over the past 20 years, Delta Paintball Team has proudly paved the way for other Scenario/Woodsball teams to follow. During that period, the team was in over 100 magazines articles (when they still existed), was playable characters in Greg Hastings video game, and was even on TV and a few DVD’s of events. There was no such thing as Facebook famous, if you wanted to be “known”, you had to work hard and hope to be recognized in one of the actual paintball publications.
Delta Paintball Team was proud to be the #1 (or often, only) sponsored Scenario/Woodsball team for the who’s who of paintball companies. Along the way, we met some really great people that were part of the industry. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank them by name; Sean Scott, Darryl Trent, Billy Gardner, Adam Gardner, Dave Brewer, Larry Valenzano, Craig Miller, Ryan Bosch, Dave Norman, Dawn Allcot, TJ Allcot, Rob Daugherty, Gene Menzies, Bill Mills, Dawn Mills, Chuck Geiling, Will Bourgault, Gino Postorivo, Greg Hastings, Dale Ford, John Battistini, Carl Atkins, John Dresser, Tshaka Armstrong, Greg Warnock and Eric Prum. If you’re not listed, it was either an honest mistake or you wound up being a piece of s**t.
Say what you want about the team, and a lot of people have, you would be hard pressed to find a better collection of guys and gals. One thing you can never say, is that as a group, we lacked integrity, guts, drive, intelligence or determination. All the while, we always knew which way to the bar and how to have a good time. While at any given event, there may not be 30 of us anymore; I am often in awe of what “only 8” of us can do.
Funny to think that the team will be 21 next year, I bet it wonders what beer tastes like.
