The American Association Almanac

The American Association Almanac The American Association Almanac is a baseball history journal dealing with an early baseball league which existed in various forms from 1902-1962.

This publication deals with a host of issues, from statistical to cultural (1902-52). Currently at work on the next issue, tons of prep involved, going on eight weeks, dealing with the former American Association players who have died in the last 15 months, will publish the first of two parts in a few weeks, and it will deal with the position players. I describe each player's minor league career w

ith a focus on what led them to enter the American Association. Also, each player's American Association stat line is presented. Biographical nuggets are described as well. Final product will contain photos of players, and will have contents nearin 20,000 words.

I've been producing this print publication since 2001. It has come a long way to becoming a bona fide baseball history journal. While it may not speak directly to some people, the subject matter might have regional interest with baseball center stage as a prominent cultural phenomenon. Whatever your specific interest, you'll find something in these pages that appeals to your love of the game.https://almanacpark.blogspot.com/2023/12/ballparks-of-indianapolis-part-i-perry.html

What's cookin' on the research front? Now entering my ninth week organizing my data from the past five years from the American Association's playoffs from 1933 to 1962. For the past week the focus was a game-by-game analysis of scoring patterns using line scores to identify such things as scoring strings, scoreless streaks, the number of innings in which a run was scored, 1-run wins, walkoffs, etc. Altogether there are 15 categories to be identified. The work will continue into the coming week and perhaps beyond that, after which my focus will shift from teams and games to the various records held by players, both offensively and defensively. The work will comprise Vol. 18, No. 2 of the print-version of the American Association Almanac and will hopefully be published around Oct. 1. It will represent the culmination of my project covering the American Association playoffs using statistical data to support descriptions of each game and series which included semifinal and final rounds. Anyone interested in knowing more about what I'm doing is invited to respond to this note. If you'd like to make a suggestion for ways this project might be improved or enhanced, feel free to chime in.
