Friday night, an old Covington County rilvalry returns.

Andalusia and Straughn haven't met on a football field since November 3, 2017, a 34-7 Bulldog victory at Straughn.

But the history between these two programs goes much deeper than the last time they played.

Before becoming Andalusia's head coach, Trent Taylor spent 25 seasons leading the Straughn Tigers. From 1990-2014, Taylor won 175 games at Straughn and helped build a program that became a regular contender in South Alabama.

And the connections don't stop there.

Andalusia Athletic Director Garrett Windham knows the other sideline pretty well, too. He served as Straughn's Head Football Coach for the last 2 Seasons before returning to Andalusia. Not to mention the days playing & Coaching under Coach Taylor. To top it off, it was none other than Coach Windham who brought the new Head Coach of the Tigers, Clint Humphrey, to Straughn.

In fact, Taylor's final Straughn team faced Andalusia right here in 2014, and defeated the Bulldogs 34-28 in overtime.

One year later, Taylor was standing on the opposite sideline.

Straughn 13.

The Bulldogs would win the next two meetings before the series disappeared from the schedule following the 2017 season.

Nine seasons passed.

Now reclassification has brought Andalusia back to Class 4A, the Bulldogs and Tigers are Region 2 opponents, and Friday night the series begins again. Straughn Head Coach Clint Humphrey knows how important this game is & his players will be more than ready for the challenge.
