🔥 HOT SPOTS ARE HEATING UP 🔥

Summer is prime time for hot spots.

Heat, humidity, swimming, allergies, fleas, and ear infections can all contribute to irritated skin that quickly turns into a hot spot.

One of the biggest mistakes dog owners make is waiting too long. A hot spot rarely starts big. What begins as a small area of licking or scratching can become a painful skin issue surprisingly fast.

Watch for:

🐾 Excessive licking, chewing, or scratching

🐾 Red, irritated skin

🐾 Moist or sticky fur

🐾 Hair loss

🐾 Foul odor

🐾 A spot that seems to be growing

If you catch one early, keep the area clean and dry, prevent licking, and monitor it closely. If it continues to worsen, spreads, develops discharge, or isn’t improving within 24–48 hours, it’s time to contact your veterinarian.

One thing we always remind people:

Most hot spots aren’t the problem.

They’re the symptom.

The real question is why your dog is licking, scratching, or irritating that area in the first place.

Catch it early. 🐾

Another beautiful day field trial day in Alaska!

First off a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped out, there are too many to list here!

Thank you to our outside judge, Lee Herskowitz, and local judges Mary Bixby, Todd Adams and Rich Gardner.

Placements are:

Reserve Jam to Mike Vogel and his little girl Kish

4th place to Harry Strahle and Chance

3rd place to Scott Anderson and Annie

2nd place to Mike Black and the senior entry, Sunny. It’s great to see this older dog still enjoying his time in the field.

And 1st place went to Harry Strahle and Preacher. This was their 6th double header which makes them 2nd all time in double headers. Preacher also reached the 200 point mark this weekend.

Congratulations everyone!

Next up - Fairbanks Retriever Club hunt test June 12-14.
