Bev Stevens of the Markley's Alaskan Rockers team is 77 years old and still still racing dogs proving that you are never too old to continue doing what you love or to enjoy the winters in Alaska.
Bev and Milt had 11 dogs living in the house for 3 years. Bev says " it is like having a large family where there has to be rules and structure.
For example, my dogs leave the dining room when we eat and cannot beg for food. They do not touch food that is laying around, on the coffee table or on the kitchen counter. They cannot bark because we live in a subdivision. The rule at feeding time is that no dog can interfere when another dog is eating."

Puppies grow into the fastest dogs in the world. Junior sled dog racers become Rondy champions. Friendships that start between youngsters at junior races cement into lifelong respect and enjoyment of competition and companionships.

Be sure to watch the premiere of Spirit of the Rondy, Saturday, March 6 at 12 noon to see more of junior racers, Hunter Sterling and Leonie Tetzner pictured here at the 2021 Junior World Championships.

From Burg, Germany to Salcha, Alaska, the spirit of Rondy connects us. Team Orange Hunters are anchored by the speed demons Michael and Leonie Tetzner from Germany. Michael, a top 5 contender in the Rondy Open World Championship and the champion of the 2016 Rondy Invitational makes Alaska his home for the winter. His daughter, Leonie accomplished a never before witnessed feat of setting a new track record each of the 3 days of racing in the 2-dog class of 2021 Junior World Championships. This team is loaded with Junior mushers. Hunter Sterling has burst onto the racing scene as a 1-dogger this year. He has a well-experienced mentor in his mother, Jennifer Sterling who ran dogs as a junior herself and never left the sport. Jennifer comes to any race fully committed and usually runs every class offered! Her sights are set on the 2022 Rondy. Johanna Badalich is the 2021 7-dog Junior World Champion. Johanna ran a gutsy race for that win. She won the race with a razor thin lead of 7 seconds over 3 days of racing. Finally, Mari Hoe Raitto rounds out the team with experience at all levels of racing. Mari is well respected in the sled dog world for producing top notch sled dogs that run in many competitive teams.

This team is the one to watch for sheer speed! Tune in to the premier of the Spirit of Rondy production by Kale Casey, Saturday, March 6 at 12 noon to learn more about ASDRA's first ever virtual race and its participants.
