When the power goes out, the bowling stops. Ugh!!! As we all know the high winds throughout central Montana yesterday caused havoc for many people including Sleeping Giant Lanes and their Bowlers. We were hosting the Mountain Regional USA Bowling Championship when the power went out. We had just started match play when the machines went dark. Fortunately we live in a region where we take care of each other. After a few hours of darkness and a long discussion of our options, the tournament officials, coaches, and parents made the decision to move the tournament to another city. Yes, another city. A huge thank you to Cedar Park Lanes in Anaconda for opening their center in short notice and taking on the responsibility of the rest of the tournament. I can't say enough about Bill and his entire team. Amazing people. The parents and coaches loaded 50 youth bowlers, their equipment, and all of their gear and drove 80 miles to complete the competition. The lanes were ready, oiled, and in tournament condition when we arrived. We did not experience 1 single problem during the rest of the competition. It was not an easy decision but after all things to consider, I feel it was the right decision. The final ball in the competition was thrown around 10:30pm last night. Thank you first of all to the youth athletes that made the best of a bad situation and pushed on. You are all inspiring. Thank you to the parents for your patience and making the drive to get your kids to Anaconda so the competition could continue. Thank you to the coaches that accompanied their athletes and ensured a successful outcome. And thank you to Zach Barton from USA Bowling for your guidance and bringing this tournament to Helena (and Anaconda). Sleeping Giant Lanes staff, Danielle, and I appreciate everyone involved more than we can express. Thank You All.
