Looking back at memories from fall 2023. Chad and I spent a couple unseasonably warm October days together, and he desperately wanted to shoot a grouse. After shooting woodcock the first day, he was able to shoot his first grouse on day two, in an old apple orchard, just like it’s supposed to be done… Classic northeast grouse gunning.

October was outstanding. Best year on record in Central New York, and several hunters shot their first birds over picturesque points. I even got to sneak in some solo time with my favorite girl and a trusty side by side. A “shoot where you think they’re going” shot brought a soggy grouse to hand under an old apple tree… grouse shooting as classic as it gets. Onto bare November days.

Another successful grouse camp in the books… Saturday it rained, it poured, and we got drenched, but we still managed to have a good time. We were rewarded with a beautiful walk through some classic covers on Sunday with enough birds to put smiles on our faces. Cheers fellas!
