Tae Kwon Do is literally the way (do) of foot (tae) and hand (kwon). It is a Korean Martial Art which developed over thousands of years of eastern civilization. Practicing Tae Kwon Do develops self confidence,
strength, cardiovascular fitness, and flexibility, as well as learning va

luable techniques. Tae Kwon Do is for everyone, regardless of your age of physical condition and is an excellent method of self defense. Children's classes are aimed to help foster self esteem and self respect in every child, providing increased self confidence, physical coordination, attention span, and a sense of individual accomplishment. Each child is encouraged to progress at his or her own pace. We teach non-violent conflict resolution and safety around strangers

Nancy Lanoue has been teaching Empowerment Self-Defense (ESD) since 1979 when she established a storefront ESD training center in NYC. In 1985 she founded the Women’s Gym, Chicago’s first feminist fitness center which in 1990 became Thousand Waves. With her spouse, Sarah Ludden, she co-directed Thousand Waves’ martial arts and self-defense programs until 2018.

Currently, she is teaching martial arts only once a week in order to have time for ESD teaching and teacher-training and for connecting with the worldwide ESD global movement. She holds teacher certifications from the National Women’s Martial Arts Federation and the Association of ESD Professionals, and a 7th degree black belt in Seido Karate. Join us in celebrating Nancy’s recertification!
