So as to not bury the lead, here are three simple etiquette rules to follow at Amesbury Town Park and in life:
**NEVER THROW DISCS IN THE DIRECTION OF OTHER PARK USERS**
**AMESBURY PINES IS A PUBLIC PARK FIRST**
**BE RESPECTFUL**
I received an email last night from an Amesbury Pines disc golfer to let me know that a pair of players had thrown on hole 1 while his wife and kids were walking in the fairway. She was hit in the ribs. They simply walked away, no check-in or apology, which is obviously the least they could have done.
It's tough to write posts like this because I genuinely believe that anyone who sees these posts are not the kind of people who would not throw toward other park users in the first place, and if an accident were to happen (as they can and do!) they would be quick to apologize and make sure whoever was struck is ok and offer assistance as needed.
It is sad, but because this did happen, it's a good time to remind everyone that Amesbury Pines is located at a public park. The discs we play with fly fast and can cause real damage to people. I've seen it first hand. In the hands of players who are learning flight and control, discs become dangerous. If you're too shy to approach people and explain the game, just skip the hole if other users are anywhere near your path to the basket. Go play Clement Farm, which has fewer pedestrians. This course has a small footprint, so there are potentially unsafe locations all over the place. Be mindful and aware, and be respectful.
Thanks,
Frankie
