Lost At Night? Why the First Few Hours are Critical
The sun has gone down, the blood trail has thinned out, and you’re standing in the dark with a flashlight and a lot of uncertainty. This is the moment that defines your recovery.
At J-See Outdoors Thermal Solutions, we often hear: "Should I just wait until morning?" While every situation is different, here is why contacting us immediately after dark is often your best move for a successful recovery:
1. The Thermal "Golden Hour": Once the sun sets, the ground, rocks, and trees begin to cool down rapidly. However, a deer’s body retains its heat. This creates a massive "thermal contrast," making a downed animal glow like a neon sign against the cooling forest floor.
2. Beating the Coyotes: In Northwest Wisconsin, we aren't the only ones looking for your deer. The longer a harvest stays in the woods overnight, the higher the risk of predators finding it first. A fast recovery ensures the meat stays yours.
3. Preventing Meat Spoilage: Even on cool nights, internal body heat can lead to spoilage if the deer isn't field-dressed promptly. Finding your deer in 30 minutes versus 10 hours can be the difference between a full freezer and a wasted harvest.
4. Finding Them Before They Move: If the deer was only wounded, they are most likely to bed down shortly after the shot. If we can get the drone in the air quickly, we can locate them before they have a chance to stiffen up or wander into even thicker cover.
Don't "sleep on it" and hope for the best.
If the trail goes cold at dusk, make the call. Our thermal technology is purpose-built for the dark, allowing us to see what's hidden in the shadows without ever stepping foot in the woods.
