The pin squat helps train explosive-strength,and can be used to strengthen specific ranges of motion in the squat. When I am doing a pin squat I’m trying to target a parallel position. The parallel position is the most mechanically disadvantageous position. Usually you will see people hit a sticking point once they hit parallel in the squat. If you’re looking to improve overall strength in your squat add some sets of pin squat.

To maximize the range of motion in a bilateral exercise like the pec dec you need to make sure to have your elbows bending slightly. Elbows ideally want to be around 15-20 degrees in the stretch position. Having a small bend in the elbows is going to reduce your risk for shoulder injuries. When you are at the full contraction make sure the elbows are fully extended.

Why Do Heel Elevated Squats?

* When the heels are elevated, it forces the ball of your foot to have greater contact with the floor. Your receptors in your feet send signals to the central nervous system which will allow you to increase the recruitment of quads.

* The best part about having your heels elevated is that it will allow you to have heavier loads to be lifted with your heels elevated because of improved range of motion and improved neural drive.

Front squat, Belt squat and Heels elevated squat have my quads on fire. πŸ”₯πŸ˜…

Why is heels elevated squat one of my favorite exercise for quads? The main reasons is the depth of the squat. Elevating my heels allows for my knees to be further brought past my toes. For me the elevation allows for an increased range of motion within the knee joint through greater dorsiflexion of the ankle. I don’t have the greatest ankle mobility so this allows me to get the depth I want. Give it a try!
